About this product

Product Information

Explore the depths of the unknown in season one of the TWILIGHT ZONE! Funny at times, heartbreaking at others, THE TWILIGHT ZONE was one of the most unique, creative television shows ever created. Rod Serling developed the series around the premise of following people as they experience things so bizarre they can only be part of a fifth dimension! Rod Serling appears at the start and finish of each episode, acting as the viewer's guide through the TWILIGHT ZONE. Consistently compelling, moral, and thought provoking, the series still inspires remakes and contemporary spin-offs today.Season one contains many of the show's most popular episodes. All 36 episodes from the season are collected here, including: "Where is Everybody?," "One for the Angels," "Mr. Denton on Doomsday," "Sixteen-Millimeter Shrine," "Walking Distance," "Escape Clause," "The Lonely," "Time Enough at Last," "Perchance to Dream," "Judgement Night," "And Where the Sky Was Opened," "What You Need," "The Four of Us Are Dying," "Third from the Sun," "I Shot an Arrow into the Air," "The Hitch-Hiker," "The Fever," "The Last Fight," "The Purple Testament," "Elegy," "Mirror Image," "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street," "A World of Difference," "Long Live Walter Jameson," "People Are Alike All Over," "Execution," "The Big Tall Wish," "A Nice Place to Visit," "Nightmare as a Child," "A Stop at Willoughby," "The Chaser," "A Passage for Trumpet," "Mr. Bevis," "The After Hours," "The Mighty Casey," and "A World of His Own."

Thought-provoking short stories and very entertaining

We got these to watch at the end of a work day. Unlike today's shows, there is nothing in them you'll regret seeing. These are thought-provoking short stories played out by actors. What if a man could sell his soul? What would a man do with himself if nothing could injure him? What would happen to a man left alone to live on an asteroid? These shows are so much more than what some have called today's tv shows of "Kiss. Kiss. Bang. Bang." Each episode is a half hour long.

  • Classic Show

Few shows attain the level of brilliant writing that Rod Serling's classic Twilight Zone had. The show is imaginative sci-fi at its best: each episode is unique, thought-provoking, and continues to startle the viewer even decades after the series' airing. Cold War era themes resonate through many episodes: themes of paranoia, suspicion, and a hopeful outlook toward space and the future coupled with a cautious understanding of the nature of man. Every season is great, but if you're looking for particular episodes, I recommend searching an episode list on wikipedia before buying this. Classics in season 1 include: "Time Enough At Last", "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street", "Where is Everybody?", "The Hitch-Hiker", and "The Fever." A definite buy for scifi fans!

  • Twilight Zone sea. 1

Purchased, to replace a disk that was lost from a previous addition. It would have been better if I could have purchased the individual DVD. But, the price was good, and I am happy with the purchase.

  • The best non continuing series ever on television period

Rod Serling was a genius. This was his peak. He finally had the freedom and the money to take literate provocative stories and present them on television relatively free of interference from network or sponsor. Most of the scripts were his, but he also gave other writers the opportunity to have their work appear on national television. My favorite episode from this 1st season is 'The Last Flight' by Richard Matheson. Serling died far too young, his vision of the potential of television should not die with him.

  • My Favorite All-time Show

If I had only one and only one T.V. show to watch for the rest of my life I would have to chose The Twilight Zone. The Definitive Season 1 is a great start to collecting all the great seasons. The episodes look better than ever and are so very clear. It is so nostalgic to see these shows much as they first were aired in the late 50's and early 60's complete with Rod Serling's monologue and the previews of shows to come.
