I have just finished reading 1861 by A. Goodheart. The information the author presents is very well researched and he reveals truths that are not very well know. I found this fascinating. What I found a bit difficult was the "wordage" - many "not well known" foreign words and many "big" uncommon words. I do have an M.A. in education so I am not for lack of verbage but the use of these very unfamilar words, for me, took away from the book. This is a must read for Cival War buffs. It starts before Ft. Sumpter and goes forward, filling in the blanks that were left out of history class. It is an eye opener of the way people of the North and South thought of what was happening in our country. I have been amazed at how much I have learned reading this book. It is by no means dull- every page is full of interesting facts, and it is an easy read.This is a must read for Cival War buffs. It starts before Ft. Sumpter and goes forward, filling in the blanks that were left out of history class. It is an eye opener of the way people of the North and South thought of what was happening in our country. I have been amazed at how much I have learned reading this book. It is by no means dull- every page is full of interesting facts, and it is an easy read.
