About this product

Product Information

Everyone in Sawrey likes Ben Hornby. So when Beatrix finds the shepherd dead in the meadow and suspects foul play, she wonders who would have done such a thing. A trio of village cats has an idea: When Ben breathed his last, his sheep must have seen his killer before scattering. So they set out to find the far-flung flock. Although she's distracted by duties at the farm and the sad plight of a young girl, Beatrix must get to the bottom of this. As the stories intertwine, Beatrix and the creatures realize that, to solve this case, all of Sawrey, both the two- and four-legged inhabitants, must work together...

  • I am pretty sure Beatrix Potter would have liked these books.

This entire series is "adorable". If you like a mystery and also are into fairy tales where animals talk and also like a little historical fiction AND cooking, these books will fulfill all your dreams. These star Beatrix Potter of Peter Rabbit fame and also a few of the real people who existed in her time and real places from her time. The subsidiary cast are all fictional. Some of the animals really existed, some don't, and in these books they talk and dress and act like the animals in her children's books. This combo of reality and fantasy can be a little disorienting as you read but is still fun. Recipes at the end of the book feature old fashioned country dishes that Beatrix might have enjoyed eating. A few are of the "first catch your hare" style of recipe but the rest are perfectly ...

  • Tale of Holly How

I bought this book for relaxed reading and I was not disappointed. An easy and entertaining read. The book does reference other works in the series and this may be a slight problem for some.
