My Podcast/Vodcast recently upgraded from the Xenyx 802USB (another great mixer), this one blows it out of the water with sheer sound. I used to do audio engineering for churches and special events, so I know my way around a mixer. The versatility of the 1204USB is miles ahead of mixers I've used in the past. Though fewer channels than the mixer's I've used at churches and concerts, the sound quality of the individual channels is breathtaking. I've gone from trying to make sure my mics pick up everything to trying to get them to pick up less (still using the same mics). The sliders are smooth and quiet, the mutes are defined by that distinctive "click" feel on your finger. The eq knobs sweep with ease and have that center "rest" position pronounced. Is a decent mixer, BUT...
Upon installation and testing I noticed the 1/4" inputs on channels 3 and 4 were intermittent. Further troubleshooting revealed if the plugs were backed out of the sockets the slightest bit the sound was solid. I attached 1mm shims to both of those plugs to keep the audio from breaking up. This is the only problem I have found with this board and I don't understand it. All the other 1/4" jacks on this mixer work fine. This is a new installation and all the plugs are brand new and I even burnished them in case there was any oxidation and still the problem persisted unless the shims were in place on the plugs.
