About this product

Product Information

Alton Brown, James Beard Award-winning author and host of the Peabody Award-winning Food Network show Good Eats , presents a behind-the-scenes look at the show and offers an incredible variety of recipes in Good Eats: The Early Years . Alton Brown is a foodie phenomenon: a great cook, a very funny guy, and--underneath it all--a science geek who's as interested in the chemistry of cooking as he is in eating. (Well, almost.) Here, finally, is the book that Brown's legion of fans have been salivating for--a volume providing an unexpurgated record of his long-running TV series. Recipes include: Good Eats Roast Turkey Country Ham Resurrected Salmon Turnovers Butternut Dumplings with Brown Butter and Sage Cocoa Brownies From "Pork Fiction" (on baby back ribs) to "Citizen Cane" (on caramel sauce) to "Oat Cuisine" (on oatmeal), every hilarious episode is represented. Illustrated with behind-the-scenes photos taken on the Good Eats set, this book features more than 140 recipes along with explanations of techniques, lots of food-science information (of course!), and more food puns, food jokes, and food trivia than you can shake a wooden spoon at. Includes color photographs and illustrations Good Eats series: Good Eats: The Early Years Good Eats 2: The Middle Years Good Eats 3: The Later Years Good Eats 4: The Final Years

Good Eats Volume 1 The Early Years

I love Alton Brown and this cookbook is just like the television series...

  • What I LOVE about Alton's book!Everything that's what!

What do I love about this book? It answers questions that most cooks want to know. I read a lot of reviews on this book so I was excited about getting it and I wasn't disappointed. If you are like me I want to cook something that I can take credit for but without knowing how eggs react to milk, flour or anything I might get results Im not wanting. By knowing how things need to go together and what kind of heat I need and even down to using the right container well, now I'm equipped with the right info to try and create what I'm wanting to. Thanks Alton for giving me the right ammo to at least give it a good ole southern try!

  • Great book - poor picture quality

This book is, as expected, written in Alton's nerdy style. The book itself does not disappoint - but the color pictures are terrible. They look out of focus and off color. I thought for sure it must have been printed in China, but it says printed in the USA. The poor picture quality makes it very difficult to distinguish detail in the photos. If what you really want is Alton's recipes, you're better off just downloading them from the Food TV site. The book is really more of a collector/fan item than a useful cookbook.

  • Just what I wanted!

As a fan of AB, I loved the science that each of the recipes had tied in.
