Outstanding--a definite hard core zombie movie based in reality
A lot of zombie movies are okay, but very few really stand out like Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, etc. The story tells how the Sgt. ended up being by himself, what he had to do in surviving and where/why he was going to a relocation area. Along the way he meets another man who is looking for his son who is in a village 100 miles or more away. They get a truck, but of course, things happen and they are back on foot. First time I've seen someone use their brains because this place takes place in the veldt (mainly open/brushy country) and you can not continue walking 24/7. The Sgt. hides by climbing a tree and makes sure he doesn't fall down. Of course, zombies stumble by, but they never look up. Rented it from a local video store and then buying it as soon as the ... You don't have to like zombie films in order to appreciate THE DEAD. It takes place in Africa and is an excellent action/adventure/survival film; the peril just happens to be zombies as opposed to rival military personnel --- although there are plenty of those, too! Against insurmountable odds, two men team up to find a missing boy and, hopefully, get off the continent, although all the planes appear to be gone. It held my interest from beginning to end. Nothing is played for laughs. Unrelentingly tense, chilling, heartbreaking.You don't have to like zombie films in order to appreciate THE DEAD. If you like zombie movies, buy and watch this one, its very Good.
For the budget this is a very good zombie movie. I have seen movies with bigger budgets that suck due to too much CGI, like zombie apocalypse. This story, acting, and make-up are very well done. A great addition to any zombie collection along the lines of Land of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead(with Ving Rhames).

The Dead is a great movie for a B flick but its not The Walking Dead.
I saw "The Dead 2" at BJs and it seemed intriguing, but I wanted to see the first one first. It has some great scenes but it is a slow moving movie like the zombies, but well acted and it is comparable to Z-nation on Sci-fy. If you want some slow moving zombies but still very scary, this is a great watch.

Satisfies Walking dead withdrawal
After watching Walking Dead season 2 straight through (i bought the Blue Ray to do so instead of struggling with the week to week thing) I was in serious Zombie withdrawal.... the dead helped me get back to my normal self. A pretty good all-around movie. (not dawn of the dead level but pretty good)
