  • Great to unwind to

    During the 1990s John Barry's scoring output diminished to barely a trickle. Higher profile films such as THE SCARLET LETTER, CHAPLIN, or THE SPECIALIST seem to get all the banter, but this often overlooked score is an enjoyable listening experience. Although I'll admit I've never seen the film (about a dying man played by Michael Keaton documenting his life via video tape for his unborn child), I revisit this score often. It does not have the bombastic quality of Barry's much earlier scores for the James Bond films, or even DANCES WITH WOLVES, falling in line with his mature later works of his career. Barry's harmonic arrangements and orchestrations of long strings supported by brass with a reoccurring motif throughout provide a low key and mellow passing of time. Sit down to listen ...
