About this product

Product Information

This Old House meets Wayne's World in this zany guide to designing and building tiny homes Derek Diedricksen has always had a love for small, modest houses ever since his father gave him the book Tiny Tiny Houses by Lester Walker for his tenth birthday. Combining his artistic abilities, wild imagination, and his passion for small houses, he self-published Humble Homes, Simple Shacks, Cozy Cottages, Ramshackle Retreats, Funky Forts, and Whatever the Heck Else we could Squeeze in Here in 2009. This book is a collection of Diedricksen's creative/imaginative sketches for building small houses, shacks, cottages, and forts. The sketches are accompanied with hand-written commentary, both instructive and comical. Derek's main purpose is to get your creative juices flowing and encourage you to get off the couch and use your hands. Believing that specific building plans squash creativity, he avoids too many detailed instructions, giving you the chance to put your own creative spin on your very own small abode (even if it is just in your imagination).

Is it cool of I put up a fence?" –the author's neighbor   With close to fifty low-cost, do-it-yourself, fort, cabin and shelter designs, Diedricksen's Humble Homes . . . is a veritable eye-tiring, carpal-tunnel-inducing barrage of wildly original dimestore-pen sketches, with a wealth of designs bordering from the clever and ultra-efficient, to the outright insane." –Fortpimp Magazine (Oregon)

  • Don't buy, it's not a real book. No more than a child joke.

Before buy ask yourself why they dont show any interior pages to see. It is not a book, it's a simple comic with a bad sense of humour and the "ideas" are no more than a children ones.

  • "Humble Homes, Simple Shacks," an Inspiration in Micro-Structures

This book is an absolute gem! While the "plans" within its pages are simple, the ideas are truly inspirational. A zany, off-the-wall collection of unique and artistic micro-structures, "Humble Homes, Simple Shacks..." is a must-read for anyone fascinated by this small (what else could it be) niche in the building world. The author, Deek's passion for micro-structures really jumps off the page in this beautifully rendered cornucopia of inspirational "day dream" building plans, that include many more realistic plans that have actually been constructed by the author himself. A wonderful book that comes highly recommended; a must-own!

  • Great Minds Think Alike!

This book just feeds my curiosity. I have always had to fascination with tiny spaces. I once rented a tiny house that was made from a Shed and it was perfect for me and my cat.

  • No how to build and the drawings are so crazy it's unreal. Probably better to watch his how to's on YouTube.

  • Waste of time and money

I bought this thinking it would be full of ideas, of houses that people had already built. People are ingenious when they are faced with problems. This is filled with a lot of non-sense. Mostly filled with things I can't see using ever! Kind of wish I hadn't bought it. The best part of the book is the pictures in the middle... the rest of it is a waste of time.
