    Best so far in my opinion

    I've been reading Detective Chen books for years. This one feels more current and relevant than any so far. Good view of modern China. Nice plot twists. The poetry probably is better in Chinese, but if you are not a poetry fan, skip over all that. I love Shanghai and China in general, visited twice, and like the travelogue that he also mentions along the way. If you want to try a Chen novel, start here. No need to read them in order.
