Can't top Dawn French
Whatever show she appears in, Dawn French is the funniest woman on the planet, period. This sitcom has lots of heart and manages to be surprisingly sweet while it's being delicously wicked at the same time. You' ll fall in love with the characters, quirky as they may be, and laugh throughout the entire show.

Brought to you by Richard Curtis, the man behind "Four Weddings and a Funeral", "Notting Hill", "Love, Actually" and "Definitely, Maybe", and his able co-horts, this show will give you great insight into what the Brits find funny about their small towns, their provincial populace and the entrenchment of the vicarage system. Comedienne Dawn French shines as vicar Geraldine Granger, the seemingly only sane person in a community of lovable, colorful crackpots. In Dibley, she is Geraldine's best friend, straight (wo)man and verger (a layman assistant in the Church of England, although how she got that responsibility is anyone's guess). Fans of BBC America's "Robin Hood" will enjoy seeing Richard Armitage, the smarmy, surly Guy of Gisborne, in a romantic and charming role as a man who moves to Dibley from London and falls for both small town life and one of the town's inhabitants. The rest of the ensemble cast is equally brilliant, bringing all of their quirky, esoteric characters to life. This DVD has the last two episodes of VoD(supposedly ever, but perhaps they'll find a reason to return) as well as some special features which might whet your appetite for older episodes of the show. These finale episodes were shown at Christmas time (2007) in Great Britain, and I'm told they were among the highest rated TV wedding-themed shows in the history of the BBC. We may not want to live in Dibley full time, but it's certainly a great place to visit for a good laugh.

If you've watched any of the Vicar of Dibley series on PBS, you'll love this two episode finale. Geraldine has guided her flock through ups-and-downs, the ridiculous and the sublime, but she's wondering when she'll have a little happily-ever-after for herself. If you'll remember, her one serious romance in the series, ended in complete heartbreak, but she's never really given up on having her job and a personal life as well. When houses in the village start being snapped up by big city professionals to use as vacation cottages, she fears the charm of her village will be lost forever. The last straw is when the cottage next to hers goes up for grabs. She goes over to give the new buyer a piece of her mind and finds a gorgeous single man, who seems as charmed by her as she is by him. ... She is on a cloud and as a "older" bride revels in the opportunity to finally play the princess (think of all those wedding shows!). The townspeople have a different idea; as their loving wedding gift to her, they want to put on a wedding to remember. If you know Dibley and the kooky characters who inhabit it, you can imagine this will be a wild ride. Dawn French did the usual fabulous job imbuing Vicar Geraldine Granger with all the good and bad of human nature. I laughed, I cried, I loved that they took the series full circle and gave Gerry a truly happy ending! I have wanted the limited episodes over-and-over, so it was a real treat to find this wonderful finale on eBAY. Suffice it to say, I've already viewed it twice and will no doubt watch it again-and-again! There are extras like behind the scenes interviews and commentary from the real-life lady Vicar that they modeled Geraldine after.

A VERY FUNNY HAPPY ENDING
I just finished watching this new "last" episode, and as always I just adore the zany cast of characters and miss them terribly when the show is over. This show was extremely funny....VERY FUNNY.....one problem. Richard Armitage did not suit her as a life long companion. He was very out of place. Maybe that is what it was suppose to be since you never know what will happen in this series. I saw Geraldine with a slightly older man, not this very tall, thin, rakish rouge. More power to her, but actually the woman who played his sister, was a better match for him as a wife. Oh, well....it only goes to prove that love finds a way and it is not always what we expect. More kudo's to Dawn French for picking Richard as her spouse on this show. The wedding itself was worth the watch....I ... It seemed that now that she was finally taking the big step, all the men wanted her hand in marriage. Very funny and so, so sweet. The jokes at the end are the cherry on the cake. Alice is a hoot, and in this last "joke" final, where she once again does not get the joke told by the Vicar they have Richard explaining it to her in rather confusing terms which she actually gets and begins to laugh her head off. I do hope they continue to make a few shows here and there. I was rooting for David Horton to marry Geraldine way back when,but not to be.

Holy Wholly Wonderful!
I've seen Vicar of Dibley hit or miss on PBS for years. I love each and every one of the characters especially the Vicar and Alice. Their jokes at the end of each program were what I looked forward to the most. This DVD is a two part ending to the series. I believe the first part was my favorite in that Geraldine and her handsome neighbor meet and boom - fall head over heels. Folks don't think it can happen that way but it happened to me! And this August is our 30th anniversary. You open the door and you think "oh! there you are" and he's having the same thoughts. Heavenly! The second part - Geraldine's wedding gets taken over by all her loving village friends- and hey if the guy shows up- there IS no messing up the perfect wedding. You will love this DVD!
