2 ELD (außergewöhnlich niedrige Dispersion) Glaselemente, ein SLD (speziell niedrige Dispersion) Glaselement und 4 asphärische Linsenelemente sorgen für die wirksame Korrektur der häufigsten Abbildungsfehler. Die SIGMA SML Vergütung verhindert Geisterbilder, die durch Reflexionen an der Sensoroberfläche entstehen und liefert optimale Bildqualität über den gesamten Zoombereich. Durch die Innenfokussierung bleibt die Baulänge des Objektivs während der Scharfstellung konstant und die Frontlinse rotiert nicht, was den bequemen Einsatz von Polfiltern und einer tulpenförmigen Gegenlichtblende erlaubt. Der HSM Antrieb sorgt für die schnelle und lautlose Fokussierung, in die jederzeit manuell eingegriffen werden kann. Die Naheinstellgrenze beträgt nur 24cm über den gesamten Brennweitenbereich und ermöglicht einen Abbildungsmaßstab von 1:6,6.
