This top grossing movie of 1986 is allegedly based on a Navy fighter pilot program at the Miramar Naval Base in San Diego, California, and was filmed on location at the base.

Awesome is an understatement!
I saw this movie when it first came out. It blew me away. Now all these years later I live about 20 miles from the Blue Angels. We are treated twice a year to two free Air Shows by these magnificent pilots. When they are in town you can go every Wednesday to watch their practice sessions. When Top Gun Maverick came out I hoped it would be as good as the first. I saw it four times. It was magnificent. I bought this Anniversary edition, number one because I didn't have it and two I was intrigued by the making of the film. Buy this!!! You will not be sorry!!!I saw this movie when it first came out. Top Gun Collectors Edition
I had the bare bones DVD of Top Gun and splurged-out and bought the collectors edition version because of reviews on the soundtrack. The DTS soundtrack alone is worth the purchase, it makes all the flying sequences seem so much more dramatic and all the channels get a good workout. The extras on the second disc are very informative and show that it was an uphill battle to get the movie onto the big screen with all the red tape from movie exec's & government.
