Fairly low noise and comfortable
Ideally, I'd rate this 4 and a half stars because it's not perfect, but still a decent choice. I bought 3 silent mice (JSCO JNL-101K, 2017 G402 and this one) to compare them and while this isn't as silent as the JSCO mouse, it's close enough and the design/position of the middle mouse button actually makes me prefer this one over the JSCO. Pros of the HD-M501: - Fairly low noise. Not completely silent, but still beats any traditional clicking mice. - Very comfortable to the touch. The buttons and the palm area have a very nice, smooth matte non-sticky surface that's great for sweaty hands as it won't stick to your fingers. Too bad they didn't cover the whole mouse with that same material as the thumb and ring finger rests are ordinary plastic. - The optical sensor is good quality - the ... Ideally, I'd rate this 4 and a half stars because it's not perfect, but still a decent choice. Cons: - Not completely silent. The JSCO proves that a quieter click noise is possible. - Doesn't slide as smoothly over my gaming mouse pad as some other mice. However this can be fixed if you take those little plastic bottom pads off of some old or cheap well-sliding mice and glue them to the bottom of this one. - Although I'm a frequent gamer, I actually prefer light mice so the artificial weight included in this one is a negative for me, but that too can be fixed by taking apart the mouse and removing the weight (it's screwed to the lower half of the mouse). - Contrary to the description, it doesn't have adjustable DPI. The little round thing in the middle is just for decoration, it's not an actual button. The mouse defaults to a fairly fast speed so it's not a big deal for me, just thought I'd mention it. All things considered, if I only cared about the noise level and never had to press the middle mouse button/wheel (note I'm talking about pressing, not scrolling - it's fine for scrolling), I'd go for the JSCO as that one is barely audible, has adjustable DPI and 5 buttons. However I do use that button and on the JSCO it's so uncomfortably positioned on top of requiring stronger force to press that I prefer using this HD M501. (As for the G402, its click noise is the loudest of the three (relatively speaking), but the bigger problem is that its optical sensor makes the pointer jump around somewhat when I lift it. Although the jump is just a few centimeters on the screen, I found it annoying enough to prefer the other two which don't have this issue. It's a real shame too as otherwise the G402's design/comfort is the best of the tree but I just can't recommend it due to this pointer behaviour.)
