About this product

Product Information

Director Rudolph Maté dramatizes the pioneering adventures of two of America's greatest explorers in the stirring 1950s Western THE FAR HORIZONS. Fred MacMurray and Charlton Heston star as legendary duo Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, who lead a historic exploration of the Pacific Northwest following President Thomas Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Searching for a water route from the newly purchased city of St. Louis, Missouri, to the Pacific Ocean, Lewis and Clark encounter wary natives, rugged terrain, and harsh weather conditions as they travel through the still-uncharted frontier with the help of Native American guide Sacajawea (Donna Reed). Filmed in Wyoming, THE FAR HORIZONS utilizes lush location cinematography and and a thrilling blend of action, drama, history, and romance to recreate a pivotal moment in the Wild West mythos.

  • Good Show

This movie is very good. It's done in Vista Vision and Technicolor. The story is about Lewis and Clark's exhibition so you know the scenery is fantastic and you can't beat technicolor with it brilliant colors. I think this is a film most people would enjoy. I know I really enjoyed it. Plus the actors are all top notch

  • Good for 50's film fans.

Other than the awkward casting of Donna Reed (?) as Sacajewea - Katy Jurado would have much better fit the bill - it's a scenic, well-acted, interesting film.

  • Perfect product and sent promptly !

I enjoy movies that tend to be historical. This was entertaining and the colors were brilliant. The story line was enjoyable and realistic. I like the old actors and these did a good job and it seemed believable.

  • Not the most accurate, but . . .

this was so "historically inaccurate" that its laughable. I bought it to show my students and example of bad hsitory. but I enjoyed watching it as a 1950's genre film. they were not concerned about details back then, just a good adventure with a love story. I love watching Charles Heston in hero roles. I did like it but again, more because if its mistakes.
