About this product

Product Information

Steven Kovacs directed this semiautobiographical film about a Hungarian-American family and its struggles during the tumult of 1968 in San Francisco. Zoltan Szabo, the family's patriarch, is still struggling to realize the traditional "American Dream," the dream of wealth, comfort, and success for he and his family. Meanwhile, his son Peter is thrown out of college and promptly takes up the counter-cultural mantle, as well as a job working for a strange biker (Neil Young). A microcosm of the vast changes that America went through during the late 1960s, '68 is rollicking coming of age story, set to the music of Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and more.

  • '68-I adore Neil Young and Dale Djerassi! Fantastic!!

I loved the music, the message of peace and life's struggles. I am an avid fan of Neil Young and Dale Djerassi! This film swept me away into a time I can recall with a smile. It's settings and beautiful scenery are familiar so there is a comfort I found in this film. Loved the comedy intermingled as well. Kudos to the crew and cast! Peace be with you all :) MerryLou White

  • Plot Synopsis

'68 covers exactly one year (January 1st through December 31st) in the lives of Zoltan Szabo and his family, Hungarian immigrants, working hard to make a life in San Francisco in 1968. The Szabos tries to adjust to the new country, changing times and each other. The year covered was one of particular cultural change in the US and this interplays with the cultural changes occurring around Zoltan, his wife and his two college-age sons.
