Southern Cross- Bad You Don't Even Watch The End!
Southern Cross. Part of the Robotech saga, it was its own anime series in Japan. Because of Robotech, many people might think this series may be good on its own. However Tatusako rushed out a piece of crap that you don't really want to see the end of (and I didn't!!!). The story is about Jeanne, a young 20 something girl who is a segretant in the military. Jeanne is not the military type. Goofy ball and a free spirit, she is constanly getting thrown in military jail for disobeying orders or going AWOL. However due to an invansion by aliens (yes think of Macross!!!) and her superior taking her jail sentence, she is able to prove herself in combat and is promoted to being a lit. However, the story is very boring, bad, or plain rip-off of Macross. The plot drags on and on ... Southern Cross. Part of the Robotech saga, it was its own anime series in Japan. If you seen Macross, you know what happends with these situations with the alien peace making. Through the music is very good for this weak show and is the only good point of it. Character and mechas designs: Horrible, bad, ugly. Very, very 80s. Looking very spacey and very impractical clothes for the characters. Mechas are very blocky and unstylish. No interesting attacks or anything special about them. Overall, SC is not worth the money or the time to watch. Avoid at all costs.

I'm writing a review partly to counter the lone review listed here on ebay.com. That reviewer seemed concerned that this anime is a "Macross ripoff", and considering this anime is by the very people that produced Macross, I think the assertion needs to be addressed and dismissed. It's a bit like saying Fraggle Rock was a Muppets ripoff. Not as strong as Macross, perhaps, this series was chosen as the second chapter of the Robotech series by Harmony Gold in America. It follows the lives of a group of young soldiers in military service on the plant Glorie, a human colony, and what happens when the native former inhabitants of that world — the Zor — return. There is romance, adventure, mystery, amoral aliens who abuse their own kind, neoconservative human military leaders who demand results ... Some of the series' problems might stem from it being cancelled fairly early on, and the series being rewritten to have an "ending", unsatisfactory as that might be. The character design is good, far stronger than today's flat and uninspired design aesthetic, and the mecha (while being a bit boxy and not as flash as Macross) are still stronger than the generic and unremarkable jig-jagged crystalline design of recent years. It's worth a watch. Not as strong as Macross, but far far stronger than much of the post-1994 sci-fi anime.

A good show which could have been great
Good music, interesting sub-plots, interesting characters and story arcs, but not fully developed as the series was cancelled early. Robotech fans will find it worth owning for the sake of comparison, and ADV came through with a fine package.
