I Was Debating Whether to Buy These, But I'm Glad I Did!
They fit perfectly onto the engine block and look great! There are no mold separation lines to trim off, and there are even little holes in the ends of the exhaust stacks. I was debating at first whether to spring for after-market exhausts when they look so much like the kit parts, but now I'm very glad I did. I used these parts on the Italeri Hurricane Mk I kit in 1/48 scale. You must be VERY careful when you separate each exhaust from its resin plinth--there are two resin pins on each exhaust that fit into the exhaust ports on the engine so that each exhaust is positioned exactly right. Be sure to locate the pins before you try to remove the parts from their base. CAREFULLY cut each part off from the base with a SHARP hobby knife and then use the knife to trim the flash resin away ... They fit perfectly onto the engine block and look great! There are no mold separation lines to trim off, and there are even little holes in the ends of the exhaust stacks. CAREFULLY cut each part off from the base with a SHARP hobby knife and then use the knife to trim the flash resin away from the pins. You will be delighted to see how well the exhausts fit on! Once you verify the fit is good, immediately slap on some super glue and attach the parts permanently. I didn't. I fooled around and ended up breaking one of the pins off! I replaced it with a piece of rod plastic that I fitted into a hole I drilled in the back of the exhaust with a pin vise. I could tell that the new pin was a tiny fraction of a millimeter off, but an observer can't tell by casually looking. Still, the knowledge of my mistake will haunt me. I painted the exhausts with Testor's "Rust" hobby enamel. When dry, I randomly rubbed on some pencil graphite with my finger and a stiff dry brush to resemble heat discoloration. As a finishing touch, I put a tiny drop of black paint into the hole in the end of each stack.
