Meryl Streep and Sam Neill star in this documentary style film adaptation of the true story of Lindy and Michael Chamberlain, an Australian couple who lived the nightmare of losing their infant daughter during a family camping trip. When Lindy (Streep) spies a dingo nearby, authorities launch a frantic search, but all they find is a torn, bloodied garment. The press, distressed by the mother's seeming "lack of emotion," and suspicious of her strict Seventh Day Adventist religious beliefs, begin to accuse her of murdering the baby. The sentiment against her begins to grow, and soon the whole continent is talking about the case in a malicious witch hunt. Despite the lack of evidence, Lindy Chamberlain is imprisoned; although investigators eventually reexamine her story, the damage is done: the innocent mother's relationship with her husband has been irreparably destroyed and she has spent over three years in prison for a crime she did not commit. This painful portrayal of the power of public opinion and political and emotional persecution is captured with steely intensity by Streep, she is captivating as the much-maligned victim of social injustice who is bolstered by her strong religious faith and stoic demeanor.

    Who made a profit...

    Great movie, just remembered watching it a few years back. Received the movie, paid close to twenty five dollars, when I opened it it had a sticker on it for 9.99..😒

    worthy of watching.

    I decided to buy this film because of sam neill and meryl streep for they both are my favorite actors. and they did not dissapoint me. it is good story, bit sad and bit terrifing and it is based on true story which makes it more interesting. it is exciting to watch the emotions of this family and the emotions and predjudices of other people and good is that there was an happy ending at last. well sort of. it is worth of watching anyway.

    Great movie if the incessant foul language was removed!

    A great story about a loving Seventh-day Adventist couple whose baby is carried off by wild dogs during a camping trip. Then the stress of them being tried for the "world" going against them and mocking them for their religious beliefs, labeling them as the child's murderers. The movie has a great story line but it has SO much foul language & taking the Lord's name in vain by the worldly people that I cannot watch this movie a second time or share it with anyone else. I would not recommend this movie. It's definitely not for family viewing.
