  • Good Recorder for the Money

Although this was described as a "Flash Recorder" it in essence is a Digital Recorder with mp3 capabilities. This is a slim, lite weight recorder with great features and the quality of recordings are excellent. I work in radio and use my recorder to do interviews for news and sports. My only complaint is that they don't tell you in the manual (or at least I couldn't find it) how to how to convert the files to mp3 on a different editor (Adobe Audition 1.5) Once I figured out how to convert files to mp3 I have not had any trouble. Good recorder for the price but is not a Flash Recorder that will record in mp3.

  • I am so glad I finally got it.

The features are top notch and the look is fancy. I love the silver look and the quality. This is the best recorder I have found. The software makes storage and files easy- no problems with it. The recordings come in perfect and clear. I feel I have a professional recording studio on hand. The storage capacity is all I will ever need. The design is beautiful. I like the silver buttons on the side. The only problem I can see is there is no off button, but you put it on 'hold', and the recorder will turn off in 3 seconds. Otherwise, nice light up display, very cool.

  • Excellent recorder for long conversations

I work on a community newspaper and we use these and the earlier ICDSX57 (identical except 256 MB) for recording the meetings we cover. The unit is very portable. The recording quality is excellent even in rooms with poor acoustics. I keep mine set to the highest quality setting and it will still record about 9 hours of conversation. Note that if you put in rechargeable batteries, they'll be recharged through the USB connection. That's very handy. I keep the recorder plugged into the USB connection until I'm ready to go cover something and that way I always have fully-charged batteries. When you connect the recorder to the USB connection on your PC, it shows up as a flash drive and you can move the recording files to your hard drive without needing any other software. The Sony software ...

  • This model Sony recorder is not the best they've ever produced.

This particular model is outdated and the software to convert it's proprietary audio format (.msv) into .mp3 or anything else would not work with Windows 7 or anything earlier. It made no reference to Linux. The design is too busy and leaves out an important adapter - a wind screen because it picks up the sound of wind very well and it overpowers what you want to record. I have an older Sony ICD-UX70 that saves the audio in mp3 and doesn't require converting it. The only thing better on the SX68 is the pickup. It's more sensitive, thus the need to be able to attach a wind screen.

  • Great Little Recorder

I love the portability of this little recorder, its computer compatibility and recording quality (near CD quality). That said, if it could be CD or better than CD quality, it'd be even better. I bought it because I am a singer/songwriter and music lover who needed a reliable, portable device to record my songs, ideas, etc. For its cost and what it can do, it's a real bargain.
