Joanne Fluke's books are like eating your favorite candy.....you don't want to stop! Things don't seem to exciting lately for Hannah Swenson, owner of The Cookie Jar Bakery, in Lake Eden, Minnesota. This is the fifth book in the Hannah Swensen series. In this book Hannah is getting the reciepes ready to be published in a book that will be coming out in the spring. She asks everyone in town to submit their favorite receipe. When Ted's wife brings her receipe in they have a problem, there is a secret ingredient. Hannah spends the rest of the book trying to figure out what this ingredient could be. Hannah volunteers to teach a cooking class after work at the community center. This is where she is testing the receipes that have been submitted. This being an election year the sheriff is in the paking lot handing out flyers. Hannah gives him one of her cupcakes to taste. She was getting ready to take one to her friend to see if it tastes right when her sister calls. Andrea asks her to get a car part for her husband Bill. Andrea can't do it because she is couch bound. She is in the later stages of pregancy. Not wanting to let her sister down, Hannah goes to the junk yard and finds the part she needs. While she is there her friend gets a call that needs her immediate attention. Hannah agrees to stay until she gets back. This is when Todd shows up. He knows that Hannah figured out what's benn going on and now he has to kill her. She grabs the cupcake and runs to her cookie truck. When she gets there, this is when she discovers that she has the cupcake and not her keys. She runs and hides in an old car. Some time passes before she feels herself being hoistes up. Hannah knows that she is headed for the crusher. Awesome scene, love it. This is when Mike, the acting sheriff shows up to talk to Todd. Hannah must get his attention. She takes off her coat and tries to hit him. Next it's her shoe, then the cupcake. Mike finally notices her. Mike and Todd get into a fight and then, I think Bill shows up looking for Hannah. They finally save Hannah from the crusher and capture the killer. Great scene, even if it was only played out in my mind. In the end Hannah gets the killer and she also gets a killer cupcake. Wonderful book. Full of everything one could ask for. I haven't tried the recepe yet. My husband's birthday is coming up soon. I thought I would try it then. If you like a little mystery with a little suspense then this is the book for you. I would recomend this one to everybody. Eventhough this is part of a series, you can read them as individual books and not be confused. These are great stories by themselves or as the series. Take the time to read this one, you won't be let down.
