Best little Sci Fi Series ever?
Did you watch cowboy movies as a kid? Did you also see Sci Fi like star trek etc when you were a bit older? Did you prefer the girls in voyager to the relative boredom of babylon 5? Well you'll probably like this. I love it, my favourite by a mile. SciFi without the ridiculous bull. When people get shot they mostly get shot by bullets, not weird unbelievable beams of God knows what. They bleed, and moan, the doctor has to stitch them up with needle and thread not a magic laser wand thing. The guns don't work in space unless they put them inside a space suit to get some oxygen to it. Space is silent, no stupid explosions and bangs. Get the drift? This is as real as a fantasy gets and makes it such a believable future. The "Alliance" is a government, an Ameri-China, semi benign ... Did you watch cowboy movies as a kid? The "Alliance" is a government, an Ameri-China, semi benign totalitarian system on the "inner planets" that Humans have emigrated to when "Earth that was" has died. The action takes place after the "independents" from the outer planets have been beaten in an interplanetary civil war by the alliance. The spaceship Serenity is a lovable pile of junk held together by a motley crew who manage to just outwit and evade alliance inteference. The series was cancelled by FOX. I think it was after about 4 episodes? So many of the episodes were made when the actors new they were out of work. They still held it together and made a fantastic series, OH!, if only they had been able to continue for a series or two longer! If you get this set also get "Serenity" the movie, it's on DVD on ebay too. It kind of follows on from the series so all the stuff that would have developed over 20 episodes is all contained in the one movie. It's only then that you can understand what the subtext was really all about. 2 by 2 hands of blue...yes....it all makes sense now after that film. Get this set you won't regret it!

Quirky and fun!!
I'd never seen this series, though I had loved Joss Whedon's previous offerings, especially Buffy, so a friend loaned me her DVD set a few weeks ago and I loved so much I watched it in a matter of a couple of weeks!! I gave it back reluctantly, and then decided to get my own copy on EBay so that I can watch it again in the future. The start is a bit confusing and there are some episodes that are weaker than others, but the worst thing about this series is knowing that there never was - and probably never will be - another one, so there are necessarily a lot of unresolved story lines. Just as you get to the stage where you really care about the characters and want to know more about them, it finishes. But that shouldn't put anyone off watching it - it's a great series for anyone who ... A brilliant TV Series from the mind that Brought you Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and Doctor Horrible's sing along blog. Star Trek was always seen as the wagon train in space, and Blakes7 as outlaws in space.
