Negative: The book was packaged very lightly. Like a box bigger than the book by an 1' on two sides and some shipping paper only on top, and nothing for the sides. For a book this expensive, it needs to be packed better, period. Positive: It arrived unharmed. I would absolutely buy from again, if packaged better.

    A Conductor For The Ages

    Arturo Toscanini was born in Italy during the 19th century, and never made it to the stereo/high fidelity recording era which began in the late 1950's. But he made a unique contribution to classical music, and these recordings are both highly enjoyable from a listener's point of view, and also document his approach to the music. Toscanini had a very quick and strong rhythmic approach to the repertoire, in contrast to his contemporary Wilhelm Furtwängler, who famously altered the tempo and accents at his discretion. This set covers much of the standard repertoire, with a few less well known pieces. The booklet is extensive, and well done, and each CD is generously filled, so that you are getting nearly 100 hours of music here.This box set is a real value, and eminently enjoyable for the ...
