Compelling discussion of major ideas in architecture
This book is de Botton's attempt to answer the question, "Why do we find certain things beautiful?" His answer is this: we find things beautiful because they embody the virtues that are too scarce in our lives. I bought this book on a whim, at a time when I was considering whether or not to pursue the architecture major, and I am thankful that I did. de Botton is a Swiss philosopher, but his writing is incredibly compelling. "The Architecture of Happiness" is a compilation of de Botton's take on what makes good architecture, but it is also a good resource for the layman interested in discovering the world of architecture for the first time.This book is de Botton's attempt to answer the question, "Why do we find certain things beautiful?" His answer is this: we find things beautiful because they embody the virtues that are too scarce in our lives.
