Great tip but hard to keep clean
I recommend plugging the 80 watt iron into a variac, as it produces plenty of heat at 70% of full voltage. Of course, the larger tips have more exposed surface to oxidize and deteriorate very quickly. To that end, I purchased a small solder pot and made a stand for the iron so that it's always resting in molten solder to prevent oxidation. This iron is great for soldering ground wires to a steel chassis; also it's very good for removing parts from PCB's, especially parts connecting to a ground plane which steals most of the heat of a smaller iron. This iron makes part pulling a breeze, especially if the tip has been resting in molten solder, as the coating of solder makes a nice heat bridge for faster heating on old rusty PCB connection points.I recommend plugging the 80 watt iron into a variac, as it produces plenty of heat at 70% of full voltage.
