Wisegirls (DVD, 2002)
Pretty good movie about three girls who become good friends while working at a Staten Island Italian restaurant. Meg (Mia Sorvino) is a former medical school student who's fiancee was killed in an auto accident. She dropped out of school and got a job as a waitress. Raychel (Mariah Carey) is the head waitress and is also dealing drugs on the side. Kate (Melora Walters) is a would-be actress. It becomes obvious that this place is completely mobbed up, and one night a wiseguy accidentally shoots himself in his nose, and Meg saves his life. Instantly she is "family" and to her regret, most favored by the Don and his son. Soon, just as wiseguys always manage to do, a stupid fight erupts and a murder is committed in the restaurant. Kind of stereotypical mob crime family thing. There are some pretty good moments that keep you attention thru the whole movie. I've seen Mariah Carey act better, but it was nice seeing a tougher side of her. The last movie I saw Mira Sorvino in was "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion", and when I see people from funny movies put into serious roles I can't really get into the movie because I can't take them seriously. That wasn't it at all with Mira, she had great acting that was very believable!Kind of stereotypical mob crime family thing. There are some pretty good moments that keep you attention thru the whole movie. I've seen Mariah Carey act better, but it was nice seeing a tougher side of her. Wise Girls a good movie
I liked this movie. It had drama, comedy, crime, and suspense. I am a huge Mariah Carey fan and after the whole Glitter disaster, I was anxious to see how well she fared in this movie. I finally got around to purchasing the movie, and was pleasantly supriesed. she is a good actress. The role was perfect for her and I can't wait to see her in more movies. The movie kept my interest and I genuinely liked it! Not bad!I liked this movie. It had drama, comedy, crime, and suspense.
