The new bass whammy is a fun pedal

I primarily purchased this pedal for the 5th up and octave up effects in order to fill out sound when the guitar player in my band solos. The tone is a bit too sterile and thin, and it needs separate eq and overdrive to really get what I want, but in general it does the job pretty well. The octave down sounds and tracks very good, and the detune settings are really nice. It's hard to say if I recommend it or not, since there probably aren't a lot of bass players who could use it, but if you are interested in adding some pitch shifting to your bass tone, the new bass whammy works really well.

  • Does it's job, wish it took less board real estate though.

the common problems with octave type pedals is the tracking, from the ever famous Boss OC2, to the expensive stuff like Markbass supersynth. Digitech Whammy pedal does not have tracking problems! you can play fast 16 note runs and it will track your note and provide the correct pitch, as long as you are not in the "harmony" mode. now, the harmony mode is a little buggy, but a lot of users actually made of the buggy sounds there. perhaps, a trivial disadvantage of this pedal is that there only a few genres that could make use of it, while the real disadvantage is that is has a big foot print and difficult to include in your pedal board especially if this only gets 10% usage. i play bass, and the most use i got out of this pedal is replicating the low B on a 5 string bass, and just for ...

  • A must have effect for modern rock/metal

I'll put it simple. If you play guitar you should already know what this thing does. it shifts notes up and down octaves, can "drop tune" your guitar one whole step, and does all kinds of cool modulation and harmony effects. They are fun to play around with and you need one if your going to do stuff similar to the likes of Tom Morello or Korn. The only thing that sucks with these pedals, is that they are NOT true bypass, and that most traditional pedalboards can't power the damned thing unless you use the provided power supply. Not really a problem, just something you should know before you plan to put one on your pedal board.(WHICH YOU SHOULD!!!) anyway thats my take on it. Pick one up, if you can find it, check out one of the sweet chrome special edition ones instead of that god offal ...

  • Great expression pedal for bass

Great way to add new sound textures to your bass playing. Pedal is intuitive and easy to use. The term "Whammy" pedal is a little misleading for those who assume this would operate like a tremolo bar. This is actually a pitch shifter that you can modulate with the pedal for effect, but doesn't sound that well when using it that way. You either want the pedal flat down or all the way up depending on the tone you want to use for a particular section of the song. Otherwise, you can add some additional color by using a wah pedal in conjunction with it, which gives it some interesting effects. While I probably would not use for most live situations, it is a lot of fun to experiment and record with! For the price, it was worth it to have yet another tool in the box for some very unique sounds.

  • Can you say Dynamic!?

This pedal is so cool. It ads so much fullness to my sound, and does so many cool things. Drop tune, whammy effect, and so many different tones! It's not a distortion pedal, so if you have an old tube style amp with no gain you'll need another pedal to ad crunch or fuzz to your sound . I'm still figuring out all the cool things this pedal can do. I'm a huge fan of Jack White, the Digitech Whammy, and the Big Muff (for distortion) were the two primary pedals he used for ten years in The White Stripes playing through a '65 Twin Reverb Fender amp and often a 1960s Silverton amp. This pedal sounds amazing through my Fender deluxe reverb '65 reissue tube amp for a funky vintage vibe, as well as my 1984 Marshall JCM 800 4212 tube amp when I'm in the mood for serious hard rock and ...
