Very interesting and informative book. Scholar/author peels back the layers of subsequent iterations and presents who Jesus of Nazareth, the man, was during his time on earth. Statements supported by scholarly research. The accompanying chapter notes at the back of the book add historical insight when read following each book chapter.

Good view of life in Jesus's time, bad book for developing faith in Christ
All right, here is my take on this book. I haven't finished it, but I'm going on what I have read so far. What you are going to find in ZEALOT is a pretty good book if you simply want an overview of what Jesus's times were like. It does a pretty good job of putting you there. But if you like the idea of Jesus as the Christ, you'd better get set, because this author, a former Muslim, will attempt to rock your world. You will have to wade through a lot of fairly cynical comments about God and sacrifice, and other things, and in the end it might shake you up if you love the Christmas story and things as they've always been told to you. So buckle up, stay prayerful, and read on if you are brave. Just don't forget the promise God made in James 1:5--that if you pray he will give to you and ... All right, here is my take on this book. I haven't finished it, but I'm going on what I have read so far. What you are going to find in ZEALOT is a pretty good book if you simply want an overview of what Jesus's times were like. The book itself so far is a strongly presented theory of Jesus and his life and should be taken as such and backed up almost on every page by prayer, because as I said, this book could easily shake you and make you question many things you have always taken as the "gospel truth".

Much of this is fascinating -- if true. The problem is that the author a poor job of letting the reader know when he is just making stuff up. Example: he writes about what Pontius Pilate wore, how he rode into town, how he was sadistic. BUT none of this is known from the historical record. The only physical, archaeological evidence says just the he was a Prefect of Judea. So what else does Aslan make up? I don't know. So why read the rest of the book?Much of this is fascinating -- if true. The problem is that the author a poor job of letting the reader know when he is just making stuff up.
