About this product

Product Information

A valuable new reference work for students of the Spanish Empire, this dictionary presents biographies of the 172 men who served on the Council of the Indies--the supreme judicial tribunal for Spain's colonial empire--from the time of Philip V's reforms in 1717 to the French invasion in 1808. Based on the extensive documentation contained in Spanish archives and on various secondary sources, it offers a wealth of historical detail on a period that is important both to Spanish history and to the development of the New World.

Beyond great price. The media itself (CDs) were in NM (near mint) condition. Packaging was in fair condition, so stating Good in the description was reasonable if not downplaying the media itself. Nothing to complain about. Shipping was free and arrived exactly a week later (5 business days). Would definitely recommend and do business with seller again! A++

SecondSalecom is one of my go to sellers, because they have a large selection and I can usually find the book or movie that I want from them at a low price if not the lowest price on eBay. Also, when I buy three books/movies I get a fourth book/movie free. Shipping is also free. This was a great transaction. The DVD was packaged well, shipped promptly and is just as described. I will be back to buy again. Thank you!!

  • Could've been more provocative.

I haven't yet read but just a few pages (on the deaths of Crockett and Bowie), but was disappointed with the author's use of dubious and unreliable sources. The one on Crockett is a notorious historical forgery, while the Bowie source may have been a highly imaginative fraud. Ms. Candelaria changed her story of the Alamo's fall with every interview she gave. There is strong reason to disregard her accounts as mythical folklore. The book is still worth having and I like the large print and profuse illustrations. It's a good starter book on the Alamo.

  • Brain-washing our Youth to fit unwanted, politically correct viewpoint.

The first couple of pages presented the book as racist and politically correct, and it turned me off. It's History, not unwanted Politics. I know this is happening to our school textbooks, and in a very short time the people are brain-washed. and don't know - or care - what "hit them". I wanted a historical account of the Alamo Battle for my 8 yr old grandson. There were no such words as Anglo Saxon, Hispanic, African American, Native American, and Texans for that matter in this setting. There was no USA either. Talk about distorting History. Tejas is Indian, meaning friend. (The giant land area later was named Texas in honor of the first inhabitants - the American Indian.) And my bet is, the word Tejanos, is Spanish for people who crossed the Rio Grande River into the North unnamed lands, ...

  • Remember The Alamo!

In January 1836, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was faced with an uprising of Americans in the Mexican state of Texas. The settlers were seeking independence. Determined to regain control, Santa Anna led his troops across the Rio Grande toward San Antonio, Texas. This is an excellent book for upper elementary school students. Photographs, drawings and maps illustrate the text. The print is large and easy to read. This historical account is written in a way that will hold the interest of young readers. Well done!
