Great price on this item! Processing time seemed a bit slow. 10 days from purchase date to delivery. Received box pretty beat/smashed up, most likely occurred during shipping.

wonderful deal and everything works as desc robed

awesome deal moving from a 510 difficult going back but the 510 is no longer supported. These two worked out really well one for me one for my grand son to learn. travel outside us often so Can always get back to hotel or airport n matter where you are.

  • Top critical review

    I've been had.

The product doesn't work as the battery does not charge and a replacement battery no longer exist...anywhere. The other "battery replacement option" to use aaa batteries was missing a connection so it too does not work. In other words....I was sold a unit that looks good, has all the manuals, but it does not function as no batteries and parts are available....anywhere. I am going to try to figure out how to repair the aaa battery pack to see if it works....but right now, the unit is worthless.

  • Geocaching with the Explorist 500 GPSr

I bought the Magellan Explorist 500 off of ebay refurbished and have been very pleased with it. The benefits I see are good detail on the color screen, great click stick, ease of use, manages both geocaches and tracks quite well, good map screen customization options, easy pc connectivity and the SD card expandability. The downfalls I see are that the backlight cannot be turned off, only down, it takes a special battery as opposed to AA or AAAs and the file structure for switching between the SD Card and internal memory takes a little getting used to. Overall I have been very pleased with the unit and think the positives greatly outweigh the negatives. Battery life is good, logging in at about 12-14 hours depending on how much button clicking you are doing. I'm using a Kingston ...

  • Explorist 500

This is our fourth Magellan, the second of the explorist series. We find them very easy to use, and their ability to pickup Satellites in all types of conditions, and under heavy cover is very impressive. I have yet to loose tracking with one, even when it's in a pack and in harsh conditions. This is the number one reason I have continued to purchase these units. I have been with many other people in the outdoors when they could not continually keep satellite reception and would loose tracking. We purchased Mapsend Topo 3D and installed it on all of the receivers. With the unlimitied memory and PC interface, you can transfer info from one unit to another through the computer. We use our GPS units all of the time. The negatives are: the rechargable battery packs are worthless when in the ...

  • eXcellent little device once loaded

The eXplorist 500 is an excellent little handheld GPS. The color screen is easy to see, the rechargable battery and SD card compatablity is enough to choose this unit over others. It wans't until I purchased (separately) the MapSend streets and roads detail maps DVD ROM that this thing really came alive! The detail map has all of the streets and roads including obscure little dirt roads we use for snowmobiling. I intend to purchase the topographic software as well. The only reason I rated this good instead of excellent is due to the additonal $149.99 software required to make it usable especially in the car. NOTE: I purchased my DVDROM brand new from an ebay retailer for about $100. Highly recommended! Another note I'd like to mention is in regard to the less expensive eX[plorist ...
