About this product

Product Information

This visually stunning action-adventure film, based on the best-selling novel by JAWS author Peter Benchley, stars Nick Nolte and Jaqueline Bissett as a couple on a romantic holiday in Bermuda. New Yorkers, David Sanders (Nolte) and Gail Berke (Bissett) are enjoying a much-needed vacation; while diving one day they discover the sunken wreck of a WWII freighter and unearth a gold coin as well as a mysterious glass ampule. Excited, they believe their discovery could be a long lost treasure, but they soon learn that their most valuable discovery is actually an ampule of morphine, one of thousands left behind on the medical supply ship. This discovery leads them into the hands of Henry Cloche (Louis Gossett Jr.), an extremely dangerous and powerful Haitian drug dealer who will stop at nothing to unearth the dangerous treasure. With the help of Romer Treece (Robert Shaw), an old treasure hunter, David and Gail soon realize that they have made a much more important discovery than the morphine and set out to keep their actual treasure a secret. Director Peter Yates's suspenseful film features death-defying dives and exquisite underwater photography. Posters of Bissett underwater in a T-shirt adorned many a dorm wall in the late 1970s.

Excellent Movie, easy on the Trashy Stuff

Back when Movies needed a PG or G Rating, to maximize attendance. Limited objectionable content that is the 'norm' today. Limited foul language. Great storyline, and Yes the Good Guys Win - but pay a price. AC-3 Soundtrack very enjoyable on my retro-90's 5.1 A/V System.

Great underwater adventure, good adapt from the novel of the same title name.

Unfortunately Columbia Pictures (Sony ) didn't invested time and money in adding special features to this movie. Seems now is not popular as was 40 years ago...

  • The Deep (DVD, 1998)

David And Gail (Nick Nolte and Jacqueline Bissett) are lovers on vacation in Bermuda. While diving a restricted sunken wreck, they find a few artifacts that peak the interest of a local man who says he is a collector of rare glass. This man Cloche (Louis Gossett, Jr.), turns out to be a major drug dealer attempting to retrieve a vial of morphine found by Nolte while diving the sunken WWII munitions ship, GOLIATH. Cloche doesn't want anyone to know about the morphine. Another find on their dive was a silver coin or medallion from the 1700's. Failing to turn up any information on the coin or medallion in the local library, they seek out a famed treasure hunter Romer Treese (Robert Shaw). Treese said that it could be valuable if some sort of identification could be established. He ...

  • The Deep

A very good movie from 1977 based on a Peter Benchley novel. It is a mystery/action movie starring many known names: Nick Nolte, Robert Shaw, Eli Wallach, Louis Gossett Jr. and Jacqueline Bisset. There is another uncredited star that has many exciting scenes-you will understand once seeing the movie. It has lots of underwater scenes featuring the main attraction of the movie Jacquiline Bisset in just a T-shirt readily showing just how attractive she is. By today's standards this is really quite tame, but at the time it was quite risque. : ) But that aside the story is good, has some plot twists and a fine cast, that puts out some fine acting efforts. Bermuda not being a common story locale gives the movie a different and interesting flavor. The story is about the search for ...
