The Kittredge/Ribner 1971 Shakespeare Has the Best Word-for-Word Commentary
The great Kittredge's original 1936 edition of The Complete Works of Shakespeare has been revised by Ribner in this green quarto-sized 1971 edition published by Ginn. It has truly exhaustive line-by-line, word-by-word commentary notes on Shakespeare's language and vocabulary and in this it has no equal. Probably its only fault is that it doesn't fully discuss the really bawdy stuff. If you can find one, grab it.
