It is extremely helpful it helps with the New Testament especially if you need laymen's language it helps with simple wording and basic understanding a great tool to have.

I had the New Testament Volume and ABSOLUTELY LOVE the information and HAD to have the Old testament version too. It is basically a verse by verse (sometimes paragraphs) breakdown that provides deeper insight cross referencing old/new testament scriptures and shows how it all ties together, historical facts and tidbits that shed more light on the verses. Concrete, usable info. I haven't really found any information to be "opinion based" like I've seen in some "study bibles" or other commentaries yet, and it is really in depth. Love Walvoord and his team's input. It's more informational than "devotional" in my opinion. Obviously you can't get every fact or interpretation on a scripture in one volume, but for some scriptures, Walvoord frequently presents other scholar's "schools of thought", ... I have an OLD 1960s Wycliff commentary and the information isn't as detailed, but offers other insights. Maybe the newer version is more in depth. Between the 3? Definitely The Bible Knowledge Commentary!!! I was looking at getting a study bible, but after much deliberation and research, just decided just to get a parallel bible and use these books as my "study" part. I find both volumes invaluable and like that it's broken into 2 volumes which makes them smaller to handle for reading. Love it! Love it! Love it!

Good commentary
I bought this commentary for a friend. Out of all the commentaries I have I believe this one does the best job of explaining scripture - simply & accurately. Whether a pastor, student of the Bible, or just getting started - understanding scripture - this will be a good commentary to add to a person's "go to" books.
