Outside of a few minor issues, this DVD/VCR combo is a superb buy! Using stock settings, it will not play Divx/Xvid files, but using this following "hack", you can make it region free and allow it to play Divx/Xvid/VCD files. ---------------------------------- Click the HOME button on the remote with the unit in 480i resolution Click the setup page Click Start Click TV Aspect highlight the 16x9 wide aspect ratio enter on remote control this coded sequence: 1397139 Edit specific "Options" Option 2: 35 (enables Divx/Xvid playback) Option 4: ff (enables Vcd and SVCD playback) Option 5: ff (enables region free playback (region 0) DVD playback) Option 6: ce (enables Insignia brand startup logo on boot) Option 6: c0 (enables LG brand startup logo on ... The cooling fan is a bit annoying if it's not in an entertainment center, but it only noticeable during silent moments. Stock, I would give this a 7 out of 10, but hacking it, I would give it a 9 out of 10. Hope this review helps!

A good unit for those without a DVR
This DVD/VCR is pretty much your standard unit except that it has the built-in Digital tuner so it will be able to record over the air programming after the big June 12th switch! We have some DTV boxes with our other VCR's but they only allow you to record whatever the box is tuned to. This LG recorder will record DTV on a schedule, so we can set it and not have to manually change channels. I got this unit used, for an incredibly low price so I'm very happy.This DVD/VCR is pretty much your standard unit except that it has the built-in Digital tuner so it will be able to record over the air programming after the big June 12th switch! Great Machine abnd easy to use!
I had a RCA before this recorder and it was a piece of garbage. This machine works flawlessly and is easy to use. I have used it to copy from VCR tapes to DVDs and it was easy and efficient. RCA never worked right. Always hung up. This one does not. If you are looking for a VCR/DVD recorder, this is the one!
