About this product

Product Information

The Time Machine and The Invisible Man , by H. G. Wells , is part of the Barnes & Noble Classics series, which offers quality editions at affordable prices to the student and the general reader, including new scholarship, thoughtful design, and pages of carefully crafted extras. Here are some of the remarkable features of Barnes & Noble Classics New introductions commissioned from today's top writers and scholars Biographies of the authors Chronologies of contemporary historical, biographical, and cultural events Footnotes and endnotes Selective discussions of imitations, parodies, poems, books, plays, paintings, operas, statuary, and films inspired by the work Comments by other famous authors Study questions to challenge the reader's viewpoints and expectations Bibliographies for further reading Indices & Glossaries, when appropriate All editions are beautifully designed and are printed to superior specifications; some include illustrations of historical interest. Barnes & Noble Classics pulls together a constellation of influencesbiographical, historical, and literaryto enrich each reader's understanding of these enduring works. The Time Machine , H. G. Wells s first novel, is a tale of Darwinian evolution taken to its extreme. Its hero, a young scientist, travels 800,000 years into the future and discovers a dying earth populated by two strange humanoid species: the brutal Morlocks and the gentle but nearly helpless Eloi. The Invisible Man mixes chilling terror, suspense, and acute psychological understanding into a tale of an equally adventurous scientist who discovers the formula for invisibilitya secret that drives him mad. Immensely popular during his lifetime, H. G. Wells, along with Jules Verne, is credited with inventing science fiction. This new volume offers two of Wells s best-loved and most critically acclaimed scientific romances. In each, the author grounds his fantastical imagination in scientific fact and conjecture while lacing his narrative with vibrant action, not merely to tell a ripping yarn, but to offer a biting critique on the world around him. The strength of Mr. Wells, wrote Arnold Bennett, lies in the fact that he is not only a scientist, but a most talented student of character, especially quaint character. He will not only ingeniously describe for you a scientific miracle, but he will set down that miracle in the midst of a country village, sketching with excellent humour the inn-landlady, the blacksmith, the chemist s apprentice, the doctor, and all the other persons whom the miracle affects. Alfred Mac Adam teaches literature at Barnard College-Columbia University. He is a translator and art critic."

Beyond great price. The media itself (CDs) were in NM (near mint) condition. Packaging was in fair condition, so stating Good in the description was reasonable if not downplaying the media itself. Nothing to complain about. Shipping was free and arrived exactly a week later (5 business days). Would definitely recommend and do business with seller again! A++

SecondSalecom is one of my go to sellers, because they have a large selection and I can usually find the book or movie that I want from them at a low price if not the lowest price on eBay. Also, when I buy three books/movies I get a fourth book/movie free. Shipping is also free. This was a great transaction. The DVD was packaged well, shipped promptly and is just as described. I will be back to buy again. Thank you!!
