About this product

Product Information

With the publication of this book, Capote permanently ripped through the barrier separating crime reportage from serious literature. As he reconstructs the 1959 murder of a Kansas farm family and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and execution of the killers, Capote generates suspense and empathy.

A book you can't put down!

I am so addicted to this book! After getting a little history about the author and seeing a documentary about him writing the book, I couldn't wait to read it. I do not want to put it down. I am over 3/4 of the way finished and am anticipating the end. Anyone with an obsession with Truman Capote's life would enjoy this book too.

  • Excellent book

In Cold Blood is an excellent book; I could not put it down. It is a story about a brutally murdered family in Kansas. The book starts out by introducing you to the family, later you see things from the killers' and detective's perspectives. The question that will be burning in your mind is why did they do it? This is answered at the book's climax and after that, the book slows down concluding with the outcome of the case. I watched the movie Capote immediately after reading the book and it offered an interesting perspective: I was not aware how involved the author of the book was with the murderers and the trial. After seeing the movie, the drawn out ending of the book makes more sense; it mirrors the slow pace of the conclusion of the trial in real life. Capote ...

  • Amazing

This book started off a bit slow, and was slightly confusing at first, but as i read on the whole thing started to come together and WOW!... evil and heart-renching and somewhat sympathetic would be some of the words to describe the 2 protaganists in this book...but not forgiveable... to think this actually happened in real life was believeable since yes..it actually DID happen...and there have been worse real life murders... but this book was written by someone who became very close to the 2 killers and learned their thoughts and life stories and it shines thru in the writing... excellent and well written.... WAY better than the movie 'Capote' which didnt explain anything and basically put me to sleep... A++

  • In Cold Blood

Truman Capote's book is so beautifully crafted. First takes you through a day in the life of the Clutters and you feel so much pain for them because you know what's coming. His characters are so well described, including the killers, whom you see as human, which makes their crime so much more unthinkable. Best to read the book and then see the original movie, "In Cold Blood", and "Capote". Interesting to see how the story is told on film, especially "Capote", which tells the story of the writing of the book.
