Bringing John Berendt's international best-selling novel, MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL, to the screen must have been a challenge. The book is essentially an anecdotal travelogue of the fascinating city of Savannah, Georgia. The filmmakers decided to add a character, John Kelso (well played by John Cusack), a writer from New York, who's meant to represent Berendt's point of view. They also put most of the focus of the narrative on the murder trial of local millionaire socialite Jim Williams (the redoubtable Kevin Spacey). This is slightly problematic in that Kelso, a mere observer, now becomes the central character of the film. But director Clint Eastwood (straying from his usual milieu, and, atypically, not appearing the film) and writer John Lee Hancock still manage to capture the quirky spirit of the book. They're greatly aided in this regard by the lush images of cinematographer Jack N. Green and the detailed work of production designer Henry Bumstead, who create just the right atmosphere for the small city and its environs. The strong cast, including actual Savannah residents such as sparkplug transsexual the Lady Chablis, makes the film an enjoyable idyll in a strange yet welcoming place.

Received the item, but it came damaged and different from the pictures describing the item on eBay; see the images for details and compare them with the picture's description on eBay. The power selector in the back is broken, and the item will not work when it is connected to the outlet, but it was advertised as "It does power on." We tried to contact them for a resolution, but instead, the seller is blaming us for the damaged item they sent.

This item was listed and sold "As-Is". The item left our business in the condition it was listed- powers on,not tested. we had a photo showing the leds illuminated. We have 20 years of Ebay experience, We do not sell items outside our descriptions. This selector switch would be very difficult to damage transit without denting the amplifier case. Some think they're fuse covers and try to pry them off,breaking them. If damaged in transit, photos of the packaging are needed to file a USPS claim.

Very Good Film Directed By Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood never ceases to impress with the films he directs. From Unforgiven to Million Dollar Baby, he repeatedly brings unusual stories to the screen with his distinctive style. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997) is one of Eastwood's best. I have watched it many times and highly recommend it. Starring Kevin Spacey as a peculiar, wealthy Southern gentleman and John Cusack as a visiting reporter, this is the story of a murder and investigation in Savannah, Georgia. The victim is violent mechanic Jude Law. All the characters are strange in different ways and very memorable. There are the old lady who gayly waves her gun at parties, the man who walks the memory of a dead dog, the local voodoo witch, and, wildest of all, the Lady Chablis as Chablis Deveau, a mysterious ... The cinematography is excellent, too, and makes me want to travel to Savannah after watching the film. My only small complaint is that, at 155 minutes, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is a bit long. However, that does not stop me from turning it on whenever I happen to see it playing on television. This is an entertaining and very good film which you will be glad you watched. The VHS and DVD versions are both satisfactory.

The title fits the book perfectly.
The book is great, I had to go to Savanna just to see if it was true or fiction. I was not disapointed, the book was about real people and real places. If anyone is going to Savanna, read the book first and see the movie, it will be so much better to relate places to what you have read. Loved the book.

spectacular experience even if it is fantasy!!
This movie is special to me. I can't explain, it just is. Normally I read no fiction. But, somehow, I came upon this book and was hooked; I read it three times. So, I took a little trip to Savannah to relive the story, see the place, etc. As soon as I returned I logged on to eBay to order the movie. Glad I did. Now I've seen it 3 MORE times
