Gamers return to the post-apocalyptic frontier for more hardscrabble living and darkly comic violence in Fallout: New Vegas. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment (known primarily for its competent stewardship of BioWare's Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic franchises), Fallout: New Vegas draws inspiration from all of its forebears, offering a Western setting and factions reminiscent of Fallout and Fallout 2, while retaining the gameplay mechanics and graphics of Fallout 3. And while ostensibly a sequel to Bethesda's epic action RPG that found gamers exploring the wastelands on a hunt for their altruistic father, Fallout: New Vegas chooses to spin a classic tale of revenge befitting the "sinful" nature of the town that is its locus.<br><br>Players begin their New Vegas saga as a simple courier who is inexplicably shot in the head and unceremoniously left to die in a shallow Mojave grave. Thanks to the intervention of strange robot and a friendly doctor, gamers survive this apparent death sentence with nothing more than amnesia and an intense desire for exploration and retribution. This new outlook on life forces players into a dangerous open world, where giant radioactive creatures roam the countryside, and raiders, slavers, supermutants, and ghouls vie for control of territory and resources. Combat and conversation remain the primary means of advancing the storyline, with mercenary missions and random battles providing for character advancement, and the V.A.T.S. targeting system and branching dialogue of Fallout 3 returning unmolested.<br><br>Obsidian has added a number of its own flourishes, led by a new reputation system that builds on the franchise's established Karma mechanic, continually updating gamers' standing among the wasteland's various settlers and warring factions. Companions also take a larger role, as players can now form a party, pass off weapons and items to friendly characters, and instruct their squad mates whether to be passive or aggressive in combat situations. Gamers also have more battle options thanks to new weapons, modifications, and special attacks; and the Nevada Wastes landscape is just as treacherous as the similarly sized Capital Wasteland thanks to militant factions and ferocious new beasts. Fallout: New Vegas also includes a "Hardcore" mode that operates outside of standard difficulty levels, and is designed to ratchet up the realism by giving ammunition weight, requiring players to remain hydrated, and making wounds heal gradually rather than instantly.<br><br>The "Collector's Edition" plays on the game's location by including "Lucky 7" poker chips that represent seven different casinos, a re-creation of the game's rare "Lucky 38" platinum poker chip, a full deck of playing cards that depict characters and factions from Fallout: New Vegas, a hardcover graphic novel written by the game's creative director Chris Avellone, and a "making of" documentary DVD.

    Interesting game and characters, wonderful artwork

    I already had the game before I bought the Collector's Edition. I just love the artwork and mainly wanted the "making of" disk, the deck of cards, and the comic book. The chips will make for good decoration too. I'm very happy with all of these!

    Really good quality. GREAT making of DVD. For Collectors and Fans.

    Well first of all, the game is FANTASTIC. So yea, it is more of the same as fallout 3; however, if Fallout 3 with ravioli it would be Chef Boyardee and if Fallout: New Vegas were ravioli it would be home made. That is to say that Fallout 3 was EASY, you could master almost all skills by the end of the game. But New Vegas, you have to strategize your character development and build a specific character and work on those skills. You only get a perk ON EVEN NUMBERED LEVEL UPS! WOW does that make the game interesting. And hardcore mode... 3 ... if you enjoyed just chillin in Fallout 3 you will love Hardcore more. Sure it is harder, stimpack take 5 seconds to fully work, but the coolest thing is having to eat and drink so you character doesn't lose SPECIAL points, WOW. As for the rest of the ...

    Awesome game, just as expected. Wide open map, tons of options. Pros - Great map So many options for missions/side missions, etc. Improved features over Fallout 3 -Putting on certian styles of clothing makes you blend in with those people -Hardcore mode makes you really earn your keep -Slower weapon damage (at least in easier modes) -More intresting challenges I like the way the karma is set up more. It is no set up as a one way or the other, your karma can be different with different groups of people. Cons - BUGGY BUGGY BUGGY!!! - prepare to save A LOT! The game freezes frequently, corupts save files, etc. A patch should be on its way Too many fights at times - gone are the times of walking through the wasteland for miles and miles and seeing nothing.     Could have been great instead its a dime store Common

    It is nothing against who i bought it from on ebay. But this game was programmed by the same people who did Star wars KoTOR 2. Remember all those bugs long load times and bugs and missing story lines etc? Yea theyre all back. After data installs and a buying a new 360 slim just to play this. 5 min load times are common. Same with bugs that at times border insane on how they were over looked. The PCs arms randomly jump up and sometimes A shoots instead of using a door. My head has been crippled numerous time cause of this bug while i was holding a grenade launcher. So Bugs abound with no fixes even with DLC long as hell load times are common and bugs that will kill you or let a NPC shoot you from below the ground and if you do manage to kill him looting his coprse is impossible as it falls ...
