A great musical at a fantastic price.

Love the 25th anniversary production of "Les Miserables". Alfe Boe and the entire cast were fantastic. The music, powerful and beautiful. As good as an Andrew Lloyd Webber production. The price, roughly ½ what you'd expect to pay for a brand new copy still in shrink wrap.

  • Top critical review

    Poor quality DVD

The sound quality of this recording is very flat. It is definitely not Dolby and this is very disappointing because I recorded it from TV when it originally aired and the sound quality was amazing! Unfortunately, that recording was lost thanks to Comcast so I bought this to replace it. This DVD is also not HD, but I could live with the mediocre picture quality if the sound was of the quality expected.

  • In my opinion, the second best performance of Les Miserables of all time.

This is a magnificent production, second only (in my opinion) to the 10th Anniversary recording with what is called The Dream Cast. I give tremendous praise to Alfie Boe and Samantha Barks for their performances in this concert. Most all of the other parts were also well cast. This was not the case with Nick Jonas being cast as Marius. He was so unremarkable that it detracts from the entire production. When introducing people to Les Miserables, I most often start them with this showing, simply because the constuming and staging are more pronounced than the 10th Anniversary showing. The finale alone is worth the price of the DVD as you see the Valjean Quartet perform "Bring Him Home" and almost the complete original London cast perform "One Day More". It's outstanding.

  • Incredible celebration! Candy for the ears!

I saw this on pbs and had to have it. I've loved les mis since I was a teen and seeing such a wonderful celebration of 25 yrs... I could not resist purchasing the dvd to keep for as long as it keeps spinning! :) Incredible talent on the stage celebrating this fabulous theatrical event. Candy for the ears of those of us who love not just show tunes but theatrical performances of a high calibre. If you don't like live theatre, concerts, wonderfully talented singers... This isn't for you ;) But if you do, buy it... Sit back and enjoy the sweet treat you have gifted yourself with! So spectacular! Thank you PBS for creating such wonderful shows for us all to enjoy!

  • Fantastic voices, music, acting and story.

I saw Les Miserables live in New Orleans and absolutely loved it. A month later, the movie came out in theaters. I loved the movie as well. So it was pretty much without a doubt that I'd love this concert DVD. And I did. It was really amazing. The singers are fantastic. And I also loved how it wasn't just a concert, they still kind of told the story. The ONLY thing I did not like so much was Nick Jonas. He was just terrible as Marius. His voice was no where near where it needed to be to play that part. But other than that one instance, I'd definitely tell any fan of this musical to buy this DVD concert. The man who played Jean Valjean was absolutely incredible. Great DVD.
