    Excellent sound--everything I hoped for...

    Excellent microphone! It appears there are no significant differences between this mic and later iterations of the same model (later models change battery type from 9v to 2-AAs, provide an LED, etc). I am using this mic in recording interviews for radio/web storytelling production. Voices sound great on this mic! I was also delighted to discover excellent side and rear noise reduction (for the standard cardioid configuration). Working the mic close to the interview subject (about 3 inches at about a 45 degree off-axis angle) the sound was magnificent and there was virtually no noise from the room filled with air conditioner and other motor noises (hospital room)! It also has a nice, solid, feel and I suspect that as many reviews state, it is a very durable "workhorse".

    Greeat Value Condenser Microphone

    The AKG C1000S is a great value for a condenser microphone, whether using it for recording or live sound reinforcement, the mic has a nice, flat response between 20 Hz to 20kHz. Since it has the ability to handle high SPL's, it is perfect for drum overheads or mic'ing a hi hat. Although it comes as a standard cardioid mic, it also can be converted into a super-cardioid pick-up pattern by adding an accessory around the capsule as well. It is a condenser microphone, so it will require either a power supply or a +48 VDC phantom power from your pre-amp/console. I love the versatility of this microphone, it is really an all-purpose condenser mic, and I bought this so my band would have more options while doing live sound and also so we could have it for a recording situation.

    Underated versatile mic

    It's a small diaphragm. So don't expect it to compete with the best large diaphragm mics in your locker. It has excellent noise rejection for a condenser and interesting sounding highs. Kinda silky when you're lucky. It's often used for recording live sound. Very robust. I like also it in the home studio for hi hats. Recently, voice over artist liked it off axis for not recording pops and clicks. Goes for around $100 used on ebay usually. Only downside, many normal mic clips can't hold it. Mic is a bit beefier.

    AKG C1000S Med Diaphragm Condenser Mic

    The AKG C1000S is a great value for money medium sized diaphragm microphone. Included in the original package is a PPC 1000 which allows the microphone to be switched from cardioid to hypercardioid pickup pattern. Also a presence boost adapter (PB 1000) is included for high-end enhancement. These are little plastic clips that easily attach to the end of the microphone internally. While their performance on Cymbals isn't up with the 451's or SM81's neither is their price. They make for a very good diverse drum mic, I like the tone of them used as overheads because of the punch they give on the toms.     AKG C 1000 S Condenser Microphone

    I bought one of these mics for a limited type of field recording & capturing ideas for later work using a Marantz PMD661 recorder. The mic was very clean. The extras that come in the case with the AKG C 1000s open up a new world of diversity in the usage of the microphone during different types of recordings. It is built very well and nicely weighted. The mic is a good purchase.
