Came in an Amazon box. Here's how they packed it: open box - toss item into the bottom of the box, take some paper packing and toss it on top of item, close box, tape the seam, apply shipping label. I received the item. Shook box slightly - and you could hear the item rattling around inside the box. The item was 19 inches long - and the box was 36 inches long. Item was not damaged. If I spoke with the seller, I would suppose this reply, "We didn't do it."

Excellent starter, at-home or travel 5-string bass.
I've been using Ibanez basses since I bought my first one (a 5-string SR886 which I still own and use a lot) back in 1988, They are light on the back, made with decent generic hardware and most come setup with D'Addario round wounds. I find it easier to practice next to my computer workstation with shorter scale instruments. Recently bought an Ibanez Talman 4-string bass (setup the same way) and it played right out of the box with a minimum amount of work on the fret edges. I didn't have to do that on this 5-string Gio because it played right out of the box with a minimum of tuning. Also because I like black hardware (and I had some sitting around from other basses) I was able to change out the chrome hardware and now it looks really sexy (if that's a thing). This took a little work ... Finally short-scale basses are easier to backpack on public transportation and last for a few years with little maintenance other than wiping the instrument clean and using a little lemon oil on the exposed wood parts. If it gets damaged, I know I can find another one for $200 or less and can reuse the hardware on other instruments. I can't wait to take this out to my next band practice and open mike night this week.

Won’t inonate even with stock strings
The saddles lock out long before intonation I had to put the springs on the backside of the bridge to make up for the length of the adjustment screws. Don’t know how well it will work. Good for a travel practice bass but not great for much else

How does Ibanez do it?
Plays well, sounds good, the B string is reasonably tight, not expensive. Limited string choices: I would stick with the Ibanez strings that are sold for this bass. I may try some of the DR short-scale 5string sets available, but I doubt they will be better than the Ibanez strings (which are also very reasonably priced). Some work to make it a solid player, such as intonation and a half turn on the truss rod. It has some very mildly sharp frets, but nothing that affects playability. Most basses need a little attention when new. Super fun little bass for almost no money. How can you beat it?Plays well, sounds good, the B string is reasonably tight, not expensive. so easy to play
If you play guitar and bass and you switch back and forth - this is the bass for you. The scale is like a guitar - so your fingers don't have to remember two different reaches. Plus it sounds great! I did have to get a different screw to make the bridge work (the B string could be set to proper intonation without moving the saddle back further) but a friend of mine did not have to do that. Bottom line is that yes you do have to set the intonation but the basics of playability and tone are there and it's an awesome value too!If you play guitar and bass and you switch back and forth - this is the bass for you.
