From Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, “Lost Odyssey” for the Microsoft Xbox 360 is an epic game. Transcending the typical JRPG archetype, this is a sweeping adventure. Produced by Mistwalker, this game has a familiar concept with a whole new story line. Published by Microsoft Game Studios and released in 2007, this title was the ninth best-selling game for Xbox in Japan. It’s still a solid choice for those with an Xbox console. Set in a world that blends magic with technology, “Lost Odyssey” for the Xbox 360 unfolds its narrative against a rich background. The world feels real but fantastical at the same time. Magic has always existed in this world, but it has only recently become widespread. Use the multiplayer mode to share this incredible gaming experience with your friends or with other users online. You play the game from the perspective of the immortal character Kaim Argonar. You have no memories, and part of the allure of the “Lost Odyssey” story is the process of discovering those memories. Throughout the narrative, you guide Kaim to meet other immortals who also suffer memory loss, including Tolten and Queen Ming. As Kaim is working to recover his memories, his confusing dreams slowly come to resolutions as truths are revealed. As you play, you can read “A Thousand Years of Dreams” to find out even more about Kaim and his immortal journey. Over the years, you see him fall in and out of love, find and lose families, and boldly face his struggles.Like many role-playing games, the story content of “Lost Odyssey” is one the most enjoyable aspects. This is because the thematic elements were actually developed by award-winning Japanese novelist Kiyoshi Shigematsu as well as Hironobu Sakaguchi. The elements are fully developed, providing a deep narrative seldom found in video games. Add to this the always-gorgeous music of famed composer Nobuo Uematsu, and it's no wonder the game is so strikingly beautiful.Every good RPG needs more than just a tale to be told. A great combat system is essential, and “Lost Odyssey” delivers. You can use up to five characters in a turn-based battle system. The game's Aim Ring system adds that little extra flair to make this title stand out. This introduces something of a real-time and skill-based element, rewarding players for quick fingers. Although you can play without it, mastering this technique will probably liven up the game for you. For the Xbox, there are three Odyssey DLC packs to continue the gaming saga. The most expansive brings seven new ring accessories and a new dungeon.Critically acclaimed, “Lost Odyssey” both epitomizes and transcends everything people love about RPGs. It takes familiar elements like random battles and turn-based fighting and reimagines them. The depth and care taken with story line are combined with innovative combat and advancement systems, making it easy to see how this title was such a hit in its first year.
