    About this product

    Product Information

Relive the American Civil War in North & South for the Nintendo Entertainment System. In this game, the player will join with either the North or South. You'll then battle it out to see which side is victorious. If you join with the North, you'll attempt to recreate history with a decisive win. Join the South, and you'll look to succeed where General Lee failed. North & South for the NES features all of the gameplay of the original release with improved graphics. North & South is credited as being one of the first real-time strategy games released for any console. The core of this NES game is simple, as the only goal is to destroy your opponent's armies. Similar to board games, you'll move your armies around a map. When two armies collide, the real-time battle begins. Both the North and the South have the same units in a battle. A regiment consists of six infantry units, three cavalry units, and a cannon. You'll take control of each unit individually and try to force your enemy’s route. Strategy is key in this Nintendo game as each map has destructible objects. For example, you can destroy a bridge to force your enemy to use a different path. Battles are timed, with the army who does the most damage in the fight declared the winner. Destroy enough of your opponent's soldiers, and you are given a chance to attack the enemy fort. This fort skirmish plays out like a 2D platformer. Your objective as a player is to use your limited number of weapons to destroy the fort's soldiers. Destroy the soldiers, and you've won. There is also a similar platforming segment involving a train. Successfully capture the train to earn gold, which you can turn into more soldiers. When you get tired of winning against the computer, you can face off against a friend in the local multiplayer mode. This mode plays the same as the single-player campaign. If you're looking for a change of pace, this NES title lets you turn off the battles. This mode turns the title into a pure board game mode where skirmishes are left to chance. This Nintendo title features colorful, vibrant graphics with detailed sprites. Whether you play as the North or the South, you'll always be able to tell which units are yours on the screen. Even though the game takes place during the American Civil War, it frequently slips jokes into the action. These jokes help to lighten what is usually a serious conflict. This NES title was released before the advent of the ESRB rating system. However, the title is suitable for gamers of all ages. While it deals with the subject of war, there is no bloodshed or violent images displayed on the screen. Gamers of all ages will love the strategy gameplay in this title. Matches go by quickly, meaning you can play multiple games in one sitting.

Brings back a lot of memories. This was one of my favorite games going up playing against friends and family. Cpu is tricky but the verses against friends makes this game alot of fun. It's worth the money and great addition to the collection.

    • North and South

This is a very rare highly collectible NES original classic game. It is really fun to play with a friend but can be challenging against the computer. If you can afford to get this game I would buy it immediately. It's only going to go up in value as the years go on.

Hands down, one of the greatest two-player NES games of all time. Playing against the computer is fun too. This game is a blast. I never get tired of it.
