Synopsis
Focusing primarily on the distribution of blood flow and its regulation in humans, this well-illustrated study illuminates the overall control of the human cardiovascular system. Combined for the first time in a single volume are discussions of how peripheral vascular beds are controlled in humans, how these control mechanisms interact with those of cardiac performance and the central circulation, and how this vasomotor regulation serves the whole organism, especially under condition of stress. The author also redresses an imbalance found in contemporary cardiovasculary physiology, where the "cardio" is often emphasized at the expense of the "vascular." Rowell stresses the importance of the passive properties of the venous system and argues that the human cardiovascular system has unique properties and strategies for the distribution of blood flow that are rarely observed in other species, a view that will attract attention and stimulate discussion among cardiovascular experts., Here is the first single-volume work to analyze in a comprehensive manner the mechanisms by which the human cardiovascular system adjusts to physical stresses such as exercise, heat, upright posture, and hypoxia. Emphasizing the regulation of regional blood flow and blood volume, the work delineates the unique character of the human cardiovascular system and the regulatory problems it faces. It represents a timely response to the growing interest in cardiovascular health, exercise, and physical conditioning. In describing the basic mechanisms of vasomotor control, the author focuses on the interaction between the arterial and venous systems. He indicates how control of regional circulations interacts with control of venous volume and cardiac performance, showing how vasomotor and venomotor regulation serves the entire organism. This treatment redresses an imbalance in contemporary teaching of cardiovascular physiology which has focused more on the heart than on the vasculature. The book utilizes graphics imaginatively throughout to clarify concepts in a fresh and effective way. Features: * Analytical, quantitative, and problem oriented * Uniquely comprehensive; coverage extends from small blood vessel functioning to the entire system * Imaginatively illustrated, with exceptionally clear graphics that explain basic principles and controversial ideas * Original, new ideas on how peripheral circulation influences heart performance * Probes the upper limits of human cardiovascular function, their causes and how they change

I will say though that the shipping could've been more consistent, not only taking longer than expected but no communication for like a month from USPS or tracking. For a second there I thought this got lost in the mail! But thankfully the packaging and shipment arrived just in time! Thank you so much for helping me complete my collection!World Of Kong - Natural History Of Skull Island (#267129044909)
