  • A Well Made Product but Lacking Information

Another reviewer was critical of the separate 12 volt and 30-0-30 power amp transforners. I don't agree. The separate 12 volt transformer allows connection to a relay and remote turn-on 12VDC like most modern hi-fi and HT gear. I would like to see how to "pick off" a protection LED and the board would be great if it had that built in. Not having a schematic is a problem, I agree with the former commenter who raised the same issue. I assume that the amplifier operates in BTL (bridged tied load) mode in order to generate such high wattage with such low B+ and B- (<50 volts) on the output devices. This concerns me about using 4 ohm speakers without substantial heat sinking, which is also not described by the board maker.

  • documentation unavailable

This looks like a nice DIY amp. The quality of the PC board and the silkscreen are good. My only issues so far (and I haven't actually fired it up yet - I'm still waiting on a transformer, which I had to order custom) are that (1) it requires a transformer with two separate secondary windings, one for the high voltage stages and one for the low-level input stages. This could have easily been dealt with by incorporating proper voltage regulators into the design, thus requiring a transformer with only one secondary, which would be much easier to find. (2) - any more important, to me, as a veteran DIY guy and design engineer - is that no schematic or other documentation is available, or so I'm told. This is a major drawback, IMHO, and I'm quite disappointed. If I had known this, I would ...
