  • Cross Country by James Patterson first edition (2008)

No doubt that Patterson and Cross fans will enjoy this book. It is not one of Patterson's best but an interesting read nevertheless. In my opinion, Detective Cross makes some stupid decisions as the story unfolds as he decides to go to Africa chasing the murderer. It's an obvious mistake as different rules apply in other countries other than the United States. Plus, no one could take the abuse described by Patterson on Cross and still a few minutes later be feeling fine and continuing the search. Oh well, I have to remember it's just a story. But, I prefer to even have my fantasy stories to have some semblence of realism. Patterson wrote this one on his own and may have been reaching too far for some new ground. That said, it's still a must read for all Patterson book lovers.

  • cross country by james patterson

FLAP SAYS: detective alex cross is called to the worst murder scene he has encounted in all this years on the force. someone with less than zero regard for human life has slaughtered a family and them more kills each one more ruthless than the last quickly follow. one of those deaths comes terrifying close to home and alex realized that he is chasing a horrible new breed of killer i think i screamed with fustration almost the entire book. what was he thinking going to africa? and he keeps going back for more punishment like palvo's dog. i didn't care for it much, i was very fustrated with this book. it wasn't as suspenseful or there was no "reveal" at the end life in previous books

  • Not Patterson's Best ...

I am a huge Patterson fan and love most of his books. This is not one of them. Although it maintains the pageturner appeal and I did like the book, there were parts of the story that were just too extreme, too complicated, and a little over-the-top. Our favorite detective, Alex Cross, finds himself engulfed in capturing one of the most horrific serial killer(s) he has ever come across. It takes him across the Atlantic to Africa where he uncovers issues that become a little overwhelming and becomes a story of its own. There are many angles in his manhunt, but only after a few chapters, you get the feeling that something isn't quite right about some of the key players and you can start to sense where the story might end relatively early on. It took a lot of self control to not read the ...

  • I WAS WOW'D OVER AND OVER AGAIN! ENJOY IT I DID!

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED THIS BOOK, I THINK IT WAS ONE OF MY FAV CROSS BOOKS, WELL THE 3RD IN LINE AFTER POP GOES THE WEASEL, AND LONDON BRIDGES OF COURSE. ONCE I GOT READING THIS BOOK I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. I LOVED IT AND IT WAS VERY FAST PACED AND ACTION PACKED RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING. I DON'T MEAN TO YELL BUT THIS BOOK WAS OUTSTANDING AND I LOVED IT. DON'T READ REVIEWS THAT SAY A BOOK ISN'T GOOD UNTIL YOU READ IT YOURSELF. IF YOU LOVE CROSS YOU WILL TRUELY ENJOY THIS BOOK. THE END HAS A KICK TOO IT TOO, SO DON'T READ THE LAST 2 PAGES UNTIL YOU GET TO THEM. NO CHEATING! ENJOY! HAPPY READING! I'M SO GLAD THAT JAMES PATTERSON WAS ONCE AGAIN MY FIRST BOOK COMPLETED FOR THE YEAR! HUGS, HEATHER

  • Only a little disappointed!

Contrary to all of the other Alex Cross novels, I found this one a little hard to believe. Oh, I believe that horrible atrocities occur regularly in Africa, what I do not believe is that a DC detective would chase a killer there. I also do not believe that the very intelligent, highly educated Dr. Cross, would not realize the complications involved dealing with another country prior to his arrival in Africa. Those things said, it was another good book by Patterson, not his best, but still a very thrilling tale.
