  • Not Bad But Not Good Either.

I think Anita Blake is one of my all time favorite characters. She's a no nonsense, kick ass broad that has a stable full of hot men at her beck and call. This book isn't quite as silly with the sex as the last few books but please, this isn't the Anita we know and love from the first novels. She was first a necromancer and vampire executioner and secondly, a woman with enviable success with the male species...Lucky girl. Now she is more sex object than enforcer. I am so disappointed that Jean Claude has been pushed to the background and Richard is still behaving like a nincompoop. All that sexiness and they are slipping away. I like Jason a lot but Jean Claude he is not. He is not as compelling as the triumvirate of Jean Claude and Richard and they are straying into the no man's land of ...

  • A fair read, not worth full retail price however

I'll keep this short, but let's just say I was slightly disappointed in this book. From other reviews I was not expecting, say, an Obsidian Butterfly quality book, but was hoping that it would at least meet The Harlequin, in which I felt Laurell K returned closer to her original Anita Blake. Blood Noir was entirely too coincidental, but I did appreciate the relative lack of smut. THe book is not worth the 26 dollar hardcover price, but I felt that the thirteen I paid for it was adequate. If you're looking for a book that is "on track" with the first ones, this book is not it. I can only hope that Ms. Hamilton begins to realize that we didn't fall in love with Anita for the sex, we fell in love with her for zombies, cops, and vampires (oh my!).

  • Probably not worth reading

I love vampire lore - have an extensive, almost exhaustive, book and video collection on vampires, and met Anita Blake many years ago. She was tough and imperfect, but feisty and not afraid to be a woman in a man's world. She also was a woman of faith. I don't know what has happened to that Anita - and her adventures. Hamilton had some sparkling, amazing storylines from the very first Guilty Pleasures, and the first romantic scenes were great - after readers had to wait for 3 or 4 books to see who Anita would choose as a romantic partner. Now I find myself skimming over the romance to get to the action, and I'm a romantic at heart. I have to say I wouldn't recommend this one, even though I feel like I've known all of the characters for so long that I want to know what happens to ...

  • Damn, she lost it again....

Keep in mind that LKH is one of my favorite authors.... But WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?? Did she forget where she left off in "The Harlequin?" WTF? This book is a repetitive, disappointing, 340 page, meaningless stroll with Jason. Why?..... seriously, Why? I think I'm finally giving up, and that saddens me, because I thoroughly enjoyed this series up until Cerulean Sins. That's 11 amazing, edge of your seat, MUST HAVE, at Barnes and Noble at 3:00am GOOD. It made me a slight addict, but 10 years on anything will do that to a person. So you can understand my loyalty issues when her next three books after that sucked so bad I literally threw them across the room after FORCING myself to finish them, so I could post them on ebay while it was still new enough to get my money back BAD. I ...

  • Laurell K Hamilton

Laurell K Hamilton is one of my favorite authors. I have read all the books in the Anita Blake series and the Merry Gentry series. If you like the supernatural this is the series for you. Laurell Hamilton has a way of making the story real. If you don't like graphic details or sexual scenes then this isn't for you. If you do however, make sure you start with the first book in the series and work your way down. I cannot wait for the lastest book to come out. That is the only problem - waiting for the next chapter, though it is worth it.
