About this product

Product Information

New in the "addicting" New York Times bestselling series featuring Sookie Stackhouse. After the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina and the manmade explosion at the vampire summit, everyone--human and otherwise--is stressed, including Louisiana cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse, who is trying to cope with the fact that her boyfriend, Quinn, has gone missing. It's clear that things are changing--whether the weres and vamps of her corner of Louisiana like it or not. And Sookie--Friend to the Pack and blood-bonded to Eric Northman, leader of the local vampire community--is caught up in the changes. In the ensuing battles, Sookie faces danger, death, and once more, betrayal by someone she loves. And when the fur has finished flying and the cold blood finished flowing, her world will be forever altered. And with HBO's launching of an all-new show, True Blood , based on the Southern Vampire novels, the demand for Charlaine Harris and Sookie Stackhouse is bigger than ever. Watch a QuickTime trailer for the HBO original series True Blood.

Praise for #1 New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse novels "It's the kind of book you look forward to reading before you go to bed, thinking you're only going to read one chapter, and then you end up reading seven."--Alan Ball, executive producer of True Blood "Vivid, subtle, and funny in her portrayal of southern life."-- Entertainment Weekly "Charlaine Harris has vividly imagined telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse and her small-town Louisiana milieu, where humans, vampires, shapeshifters, and other sentient critters live...Her mash-up of genres is delightful, taking elements from mysteries, horror stories, and romances."-- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel "The series continues to be inventive and funny with an engaging, smart, and sexy heroine."-- The Denver Post "Blending action, romance, and comedy, Harris has created a fully functioning world so very close to our own, except, of course, for the vamps and other supernatural creatures."-- The Toronto Star, “[A] deliciously fiendish&increasingly riotous series.â€ — Dallas Morning News “Layered.â€ — Entertainment Weekly “[A] delightful Southern vampire detective series.â€ — Denver Post “I love the imaginative, creative world of Charlaine Harris!â€ —Christine Feehan “With&an audacious wink of her eye Harris creates a world that is both a weird possibility and a wild rideâ€ ? • Best of the Worst

Like all Charlaine Harris, the characterization was terrific. The reader truly feels that they 'know' these characters, becomes attached to them and engrossed in their stories. As usual, Mrs. Harris is not afraid to take several of those characters away from you, in one way or another. The books, for all that they are fantasy, have an extremely life-like quality; very gritty and realistic in tone and idea. This book was perhaps a little darker than some, but in the way that many people in Louisiana have experienced since Katrina. There are always those, in any culture, who are eager to take advantage of the weakened. Mrs. Harris creates an alternate reality that is so close to our own and so well thought out as to make it completely imaginable. In 'From Dead to Worse' she continues ...

  • sookie strikes again

Not a book for the beginner of the sookie set of adventures. The author presupposes you have read all the previous books as there is very little to give the beginner a start on the plot. No9t withstanding this. The story line moves at a good pace to get you into the latest lot of trouble sookie is in. All the regular characters who call sookie friend are there along with some old enemies. Plenty of blood curdling fight scenes, A bit of romance, plenty of scares and of course a (relatively) happy ending. Witchcraft, warlocks Vampires, shape shifters Adulterers, murderers, Wars, They all guest in this latest episode of the Quiet life of sookie you local downhome telepath. We purchased the book direct from the U.S. and were not disappointed. Having read all the previous books it was not hard ...

  • WONDERFUL~ UNPREDICTABLE~ QUIRKY!....A MUST READ!

From Dead to Worse is a Great Book! You will Laugh out Loud at Sookies antics! This book is Wonderful with Non-Stop Action, Mystery and a little Romance thrown into the mix. This is the 8th book in the Sookie Stackhouse Series. I can't wait for the next one to be released in 2009. I did not want this book to end! I love all the quirky characters in this crazy world Charlaine has created! She is a wonderful writer and this is a must read series! I do recommend you read these books in order as the Characters and the Story carry over from book to book. Check my Guides for the READING ORDER!

  • Entertaining Read

This book is not as good as her other ones in this series. It is an entertaining read, and if you are reading the series, you have to read this one too. I would have liked to see more of Eric (the vampire sheriff)interact with Sookie. (I would love to see them together again..) Although lots of other interesting things happen in this book. The next book in the series is being released this year. Can't wait to read it..This is a great series and the True Blood show is one of the best. (I would read the books first before watching the show..I read them after watching the show..if you read them first, you have some idea what is going on..)...All in all I thought it was a good book.

  • From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris (2008)

This series is ADDICTING!!! I needed to move on to something new after my Twilight obsession faded a bit, and I like these books ALMOST as much! (Let's face it, nothing will ever compare to a story involving Edward Cullen.) In the Twilight series it's pretty clear that you should be rooting for Edward. In the Sookie Stackhouse series it's not as clear who you should be rooting for and there are more than two choices. What makes it harder is there are things you love and hate about all of them! (I'm torn between team Eric and team Sam, but I still have soft spots for team Bill ;) )
