About this product

Product Information

With Dark Harbor, Stuart Woods proved yet again that he is the master of the popular crime novel. Now he outdoes himself with the newest addition to the series. Stone Barrington embarks on his most dangerous adventure yet when he takes on a job as a lawyer for a sleazy and clueless con man-and ends up getting embroiled in the underworld of the New York mafia. It started out as just another late night at Elaine's, where Stone was eating a porterhouse steak and enjoying the company of his friends. But when Herbie Fisher, a notoriously not-so-sharp swindler, walked in, the pleasant atmosphere turned to ice. Herbie convinces Bill Eggers, the managing partner of Woodman & Weld, to sign him on as a client-with the goal of taking down the infamous mafia boss Carmine Datilla. And even though Stone doesn't want to have anything to do with Herbie-or the mafia, for that matter-he is soon coerced into being Herbie's lawyer. With the help of his ex-partner, Dino, Stone investigates "Datilla the Hun," and the rest of the mob family, encountering intrigue and danger at every turn. Will Stone finally take a stand, or will he end up at the bottom of Sheepshead Bay? With the swift action, razor-sharp characters, and crackling dialogue that are Stuart Woods's hallmarks, Fresh Disastersis Woods at the very height of his storytelling powers.

  • Stuart Woods Did It Yet Again!

My long time favorite author Stuart Woods has wrote yet another facinating book with the character Stone Barrington. I have read everyone! I read this in 2 days off and on. What a great movie this series would make. I can picture the new James Bond character playing Stone! Wow. In this book it is one disaster after another. Every corner Stone turns something is happening. You will not be disapointed.

  • Very lite dessert

Woods was one of my favorite writers as I have read all of his books. However, I note that the plot structure and story line are not as complex as earlier works. The story line is as straight as a clothes line with no clothes on it. There seem to be no sub plots and fresh characters to the genre are thinly fleshed out, serving only as pawns in what amounts to a quick, short tale. While I hunger for a full steak dinner, Woods serves up only a very light souffle. Could it be that Woods has run out of ammunition and only has blanks left? Or, is it the fact that he is churning out these novels so fast that he has sacrificed his talent to making a a quick score?

  • Fresh Disasters by Stuart Woods (2007)

CFresh Disasters by Stuart Woods (2007) Another great light Read - Stone gets his man. harming New York lawyer Stone Barrington is enlisted by the hapless Herbie Fisher after Carmine "the Hun" Datilla's thugs beat Herbie up over unpaid debts. Now Stone is faced with the nearly impossible task of taking the ruthless Mafioso to court. As if that wasn't enough, his new girlfriend, a stunning masseuse named Celia Cox, turns out to have a psychotic ex-boyfriend. To his 13th installment in the Stone series, Stuart Woods brings his usual blend of action, sex, and humor.

  • More than just a fun read.

Stuart Woods is a classical mystery/crime novelist. The continuation of the Stone Barrington story brings depth and familiarity to the characters much like a long-running television series. This non-formula book continues that story with a maturing set of challenges that not only use the character's deductive reasoning, but also his legal expertise.
