    Simple and to the point

    Always been fascinated by this time period and the travails encountered crossing the prairies, but the format used to tell the story and the compelling story itself had me totally immersed (sp?) and in tears towards the end. Sandra Dallas almost always writes a good book. Not always.....but most often.

    True Pioneer story all the way.

    IF you like wagon train/pioneer stories - this one is one of the most realistic you will read. It has several sad parts... but that is just the way of pioneer life. It is written like an actual diary - the private thoughts of Mattie. Great characters and interesting story of determination and perseverance. Very enjoyable.
