    3D review: Interesting for collectors

    I wish I has watched the extras before the film. That way I wouldn't have focused on trying to figure out a cohesive story. In interviews in the extras, the young, beginning actors explain that the story can be seen in any number of ways. In other words, what's happening is up to your interpretation. There's a promising past-meets-present time warp going on that could have made for a great story, but it's not handled well by screenwriter Daisuke Hosaka. Director Takashi Shimizu (Ju-On, The Grudge) clearly loves 3D and wants to promote it in Japan with this film. The first 10 minutes, however, is a mishmash of blurry dreamlike scenes randomly cut together, but the 3D gets a lot better once things brighten up. Shimizu's DP uses a handheld parallax view camera he made for the film to shoot ...
